  • Patent number: 8917892
Abstract: A method for adjusting a hearing instrument to reduce feedback by placing a hearing instrument having an adjustable frequency response in a wearer's ear, providing a probe microphone for measuring the sound pressure level inside the ear and a reference microphone for measuring the sound pressure level outside the ear, exposing the ear to a stimulus and a dynamic event, determining the gain as a function of frequency from the difference in sound pressure level measured by the probe microphone and the reference microphone, identifying a feedback peak where the frequency is in the center of a range of frequencies and corresponds to the maximum gain in that range of frequencies and adjusting the hearing instrument to reduce the gain at a frequency corresponding to the frequency of the feedback peak.

  • Patent number: 7877416
Abstract: The present invention provides a methodology for truncating a logical structure having data matching a predefined pattern. For example, the present invention truncates a logical structure so that branches of the structure are automatically ceased at a recursive ancestor instead of at a descendant. By using the methodology of the present invention, the total number of nodes of the logical structure that will be automatically displayed for a user is represented by the formula N*N+1. Thus, when N=10, the total number of nodes that are automatically displayed for the user is 101. This quantity is far more user friendly than the 9,864,101 nodes that would be displayed when N=10 under previous approaches.

  • Patent number: 7512937
Abstract: A method deploys a set of coupled data transformation modules describing a data transformation, the data transformation for transforming a data structure from a first format to a second format. The method includes receiving an instruction for selecting the set of transformation modules from a memory; converting each of the set of transformation modules to a common model format, the set of modules having at least one transformation module being of a module type of a type set including language constructed modules and visually constructed modules; and generating an executable version of the converted transformation modules suitable for execution by a data transformation engine. The executable version, when executed, transforms the data structure from the first format to the second format.

  • Publication number: 20080298600
Abstract: A method for fitting a hearing instrument comprises placing the hearing instrument in situ includes receiving an audiogram of the user, determining a target gain for the hearing instrument as a function of the audiogram, exposing a reference sensor located adjacent the hearing instrument to an external speech signal, measuring an external sound pressure level (SPL) via the reference sensor, exposing a probe sensor coupled to the inside of the ear to the output of the hearing instrument while the hearing instrument is in situ, measuring an internal sound pressure level (“SPL”) inside the ear of the user via the probe sensor, determining an offset gain as a function of the external SPL, the target gain and the internal SPL, and automatically adjusting a gain of the hearing instrument according to the offset gain.

  • Patent number: 7182820
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for cleaning hearing aid devices are disclosed. Drying is facilitated in hearing instruments through a novel combination of heater and desiccant in an essentially closed system. Greater efficiency is obtained by minimizing the volume of gas, e.g., air, requiring moisture extraction.

  • Patent number: 5098297
Abstract: A composition for the rapid desensitization of dentin and a system for its application, comprising a subsaturated aqueous solution of monopotassium monohydrogen oxalate and a disposable single-use applicator/dispenser apparatus. The apparatus includes a crushable ampule containing the desensitizing solution housed in a flexible body, with a filter which retains ample fragments but allow the solution to flow to and saturate an applicator tip or swab. The applicator may be used to treat the teeth directly, or the swab may be removed from the applicator after saturation and placed on hard-to-reach dentinal surfaces. In one embodiment, the apparatus further includes a dispensing package containing a plurality of the single-use applicators and provided with a magnetic means affixed thereto for securing the package to convenient metallic surfaces. Another embodiment includes a blister dispensing package comprising a plurality of detachable sheets which stores the applictors.
