  • Patent number: 11089469
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating service sharing (e.g., voice services, data services, multimedia services, etc.) in a network environment (100). In one example arrangement, upon receiving an input at a host subscriber device (302), a request is generated (306) to a host subscriber's service provider network (304) for instantiating a virtual subscriber identification module (vSIM) populated with the host subscriber's service profile with respect to a service. A guest user's authentication information is provided (354) for performing guest registration and remote provisioning (354, 502) for the vSIM, the remote provisioning including allocation of a temporary phone number and an IP address, which may be used in a mapping relationship for routing calls or sessions engaged by the guest (352) using a service shared with the host subscriber (302).

  • Patent number: 9961001
Abstract: A scheme for of categorizing packet flows through a network node, e.g., a proxy or router. In one embodiment, packets of a particular flow arriving at the node are monitored for determining whether there is a specific packet traffic pattern associated with the particular flow. • Publication number: 20170272792
Abstract: A content popularity determination system and method operative with interconnected set-top boxes (STBs) configured to facilitate media streaming in a network environment. In one embodiment, download patterns may be monitored relative to accessing a particular content via one or more STBs (STBs) associated with a subscriber. Also monitored is if the same particular content is shared by other STBs for downloading to other subscribers. Popularity-related metrics with respect to the particular content may be determined based on accessing of the particular content by the subscriber and sharing of the particular content by other STBs for downloading to the other subscribers.

  • Publication number: 20170272783
Abstract: An interconnected architecture for set-top boxes (STBs) configured to facilitate media streaming in a network environment. In one embodiment, a data center associated with the network environment includes a control plane manager operative to receive and process media requests from a plurality of subscriber devices, each subscriber device comprising at least a media renderer and a user interface operative with a virtual STB hosted at the data center. One or more vSTBs associated with a plurality of subscribers may be hosted at the data center, which may be logically organized into a number of mesh architectures. The control plane manager is further operative to determine if a request from a subscriber device for a particular content is for content that already exists at one or more vSTBs hosted in the data center, and if so, select an optimal vSTB that already supports a stream of the requested particular content for effectuating a media session with the subscriber device.

  • Patent number: 9203694
Abstract: A network-assisted remote access system enables a user to remotely access a home Universal Plug-and-Play (UPnP) network from a visited UPnP network. A controller device coupled to a network edge device is operated by a network service provider. When the controller device receives a request from a roaming user to access her home UPnP network, the controller device confirms with a home network edge device that the user is authorized to access the home UPnP network. The controller device then instantiates a layer-2 connection specific for the user between the user device and the home edge device. The controller device provides the user device access to the home UPnP network via the layer-2 connection.

  • Patent number: 8144667
Abstract: One embodiment includes determining a channel quality prediction error indicative a channel quality for a first time interval. The first time interval includes of a plurality of subframes, and the channel quality prediction error is calculated based on a first channel quality indicator associated with a first sub-frame and a second channel quality indicator associated with a second sub-frame. The first subframe and the second sub-frame are temporally spaced from one another. For example, the first subframe and the second subframe are temporally spaced apart by at least the length of the first time interval. More specifically, the second subframe may be received the first time interval after the first subframe.

  • Publication number: 20070165667
Abstract: A multiple mode data communication system and method provides the flexibility to schedule wireless unit transmissions and/or allow the wireless unit to transmit autonomously. In certain embodiments, the wireless units can transmit autonomously and/or use scheduling depending on the data rate, the length of the data packet or the type of data. For example, the wireless units can transmit autonomously at lower data rates and use scheduling at higher data rates. Thus, the multiple mode system enables wireless unit transmissions to be scheduled and/or be transmit autonomously, and wireless units can simultaneously operate in different scheduling and/or autonomous modes.

  • Publication number: 20070002765
Abstract: In a wireless network or other communication system, admission of users to the system is based on predicted scheduling gain. A scheduler is configured to manage access to network resources for users already admitted to the system. An admission control module is coupled to the scheduler, and determines a predicted scheduling gain of the scheduler under an operating scenario involving admission of at least one additional user to the system. The predicted scheduling gain is processed to generate at least one performance metric which is used to make an admission control decision regarding admission of the at least one additional user to the system.

  • Publication number: 20060285490
Abstract: In a wireless network or other communication system, admission of users to the system involves use of a first scheduler, which makes actual scheduling decisions for admitted users, and a second scheduler, which emulates the operation of the first scheduler. The first scheduler is configured to manage access to network resources for users already admitted to the system. The first scheduler is coupled to an admission control module which contains the second scheduler. The second scheduler, also referred to herein as a virtual scheduler, emulates operation of the first scheduler, under an operating scenario involving admission of at least one additional user to the system, in order to generate a performance metric. The performance metric is used to make an admission control decision regarding admission of the at least one additional user to the system.

  • Publication number: 20050169405
Abstract: A decision as to whether a mobile terminal has transmitted an ACK, a NACK or a NULL from a received signal at a base station is made by successively eliminating one of the three possible transmitted symbols by sequentially applying decision rules that maximize network throughput by minimizing the sum of the weighted costs of making a decision based on the magnitude of the received signal.
