    Abstract: An apparatus comprises at least one processing device comprising a processor coupled to a memory. The at least one processing device is configured to receive in a storage system, from a host device, mapping information associating a key identifier of a datastore-level key with a corresponding datastore comprising multiple logical storage devices of the storage system, to store the mapping information in a datastore-level key data structure of the storage system, to utilize the key identifier to obtain in the storage system the datastore-level key from a key management server external to the storage system, and responsive to receipt of at least one IO operation from the host device relating to at least one of reading or writing encrypted data of at least one of the logical storage devices of the datastore, to utilize the obtained datastore-level key to access the encrypted data in unencrypted form in the storage system.

The splitter captures a write and adds metadata to augment the write with virtual related information. The augmented data is provided to a smartNIC while the write is then processed in the IO stack. The smartNIC may have a volume only visible to the splitter. The smartNIC also includes processing power that allows data protection operations to be performed at the smartNIC rather than with the processing resources of the host.

    Abstract: A data processing system includes host computers and a data storage system that (1) periodically calculates port congestion values for storage system ports based on per-port values for (a) a number of storage IO commands being processed by each port and (b) CPU utilization of one or more CPUs assigned to each port, and (2) periodically sends the port congestion values to the host computers. Each host computer includes multipathing logic for selectively directing storage IO commands on selected paths to the data storage system. The multipathing logic receives the port congestion values from the data storage system and utilizes the port congestion values for path selection by preferentially directing first storage IO commands of higher service level objective to storage system ports having lower congestion and preferentially directing second storage IO commands of lower service level objective to storage system ports having higher congestion.
