Abstract: A method is used in managing recovery of file systems. A determination is made during recovery of a file system as to whether information required for recovering the file system is missing. Based on the determination, storage for a slice is provisioned. The slice is updated with the information required for recovering the file system. Recovery of the file system is performed.

Abstract: A technique for managing a file system includes dividing the addressable space of a file system into multiple subspaces: a data subspace for user data; an inode subspace for inodes describing the user data; and an MDB (metadata block) subspace for indirect blocks and/or directory structures pertaining to the user data. In response to storage requests to write user files to the file system, the file system stores user data of the files in the data subspace, stores inodes pertaining to the user files in the inode subspace, and stores indirect blocks and/or directories in the MDB subspace.

Abstract: A file system has files constructed of an inode for each file, indirect blocks, and allocation units of file system data blocks. Each of the allocation units has one of the file system data blocks or a plurality of the file system data blocks having contiguous file system block numbers. Each file in the file system has a respective allocation unit size attribute specifying an allocation unit size of each and every allocation unit in the file, and the files in the file system have allocation units of different allocation unit sizes. By using larger allocation units for larger files, there is a reduction in the number of indirect blocks in the files without a corresponding loss in performance, and a reduction in the time needed for the UNIX FSCK utility to check file system consistency.

Abstract: A method is used in recovering in deduplication systems. Metadata of a data object is evaluated for determining deduplication status for the data object. Based on the deduplication status, the data object is recovered.
