  • Publication number: 20260118665
Abstract: A relative position change sensor includes a laser element and an image sensor. The relative position change sensor is disposed within a nose pad of a head-mounted electronic device so that the laser element is positioned to emit laser light against a substantially stationary portion of the wearer's anatomy, such as a side of the nasal bone of the wearer. As a result of this construction and orientation, the image sensor is configured to be illuminated with a laser speckle pattern that may shift in plane proportional to movement between the substantially stationary portion and the head-mounted electronic device. Upon determining such a shift has occurred, the relative position change sensor may report a slippage event in respect of the head-mounted electronic device and the wearer.

  • Publication number: 20260036944
Abstract: An electronic watch described herein may include an external crown that is positioned along an external side of a wall segment of a housing of the electronic device. The crown may be configured to rotate in response to a user input and may be coupled to a magnetic member that can rotate with the crown. A magnetic sensing system is positioned within an internal volume of the device, defined by the housing, and may be configured to detect a change in magnetic field due to the rotation of the magnetic member through the wall segment of the housing.

  • Patent number: 12104929
Abstract: A compact crown for an electronic device such as an electronic watch, including a set of wipers capable of determining a rotation angle, rotation direction, or rotation speed, is disclosed. The set of wipers is in contact with at least one resistance member at different angular positions around a rotation axis. The crown may have a group of ground taps disposed along the resistance member and a measured signal may vary based on the position of each wiper as it contacts the at least one resistance member. A compact crown may also include capacitive members and capacitive sensors in order to similarly determine rotation angle, rotation direction, or rotation speed.

  • Publication number: 20210294489
Abstract: A self-mixing interference sensor may be positioned within an electronic device and may be configured to detect a gesture on a user input surface of the electronic device. A beam of electromagnetic radiation may be emitted from the self-mixing interference sensor toward the user input surface. When an object with a suitable refractive index is not in contact with the user input surface, the beam of electromagnetic radiation may reflect away from the self-mixing interference sensor. When an object with a suitable refractive index is in contact with the user input surface, the beam of electromagnetic radiation may reflect back into the self-mixing interference sensor and may undergo a self-mixing process. A property of the object in contact with the surface of the user input device may be detected by measuring a change in an optical property of the beam of electromagnetic radiation.
