  • Publication number: 20030193709
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an electrically switchable laminate construction for applications including smart windows, and other uses and applications in which light management is desired. The electro-optical laminate construction has scattering and transparent modes of operation for dynamically controlling electromagnetic radiation flow.

  • Patent number: 6623841
Abstract: Ink receptive substrates comprise a base layer formed from a water-insoluble thermoplastic polymer, and an ink receptive layer disposed over the base layer. The ink receptive layer is formed from a melt processable blend of a water-soluble polymer and a substantially water-insoluble polymer, and provides an inherently ink receptive surface without further surface treatment. The ink receptive blend comprises in the range of from 20 to 80 percent by weight water-soluble polymer, and in the range of from 20 to 80 percent by weight substantially water-insoluble polymer based on the total weight of the blend. The blend has a melting temperature in the range of from about 100 to 600° F. Preferred water-soluble polymers include polyvinyl alcohols and polyalkyl oxazolines. Preferred ink receptive substrates of this invention comprise a base layer and ink receptive layer that are formed simultaneously by coextrusion process.

  • Publication number: 20030148164
Abstract: A fuel cell separator or water transport plate is formed of graphite, carbon fibers and an inert thermosetting hydrophilic binder. The materials may be in powdered form, and plates, preferably channeled, are formed using heat and pressure. The hydrophilic properties of the plates may be improved by immersion in an oxidizing bath followed by water rinsing. The active materials included in the plate are substantially limited to graphite, carbon fibers and the binder, and no additional hydrophilic coatings, materials or any high temperature processes are involved.

  • Publication number: 20030148056
Abstract: A card sheet including a top material having punched lines, the front side of the top material being printable. A carrier material of at least one polymer layer is directly applied as by extruding to the back side of the top material. The polymer has a stress-at-break in the range of 10 to 30 MPa and an elongation at break in the range of 10 to 120%. From the card sheet individual cards may be broken out to form high quality calling (business) cards, photograph cards, post cards or the like.

  • Patent number: 6541098
Abstract: Three-dimensional flexible adhesive film structures are described which exhibit tack on demand characteristics. The film is capable of showing minimal or no tack under normal handling conditions, but when pressed against a target surface, exhibits the desired adhesion.

  • Patent number: 5911665
Abstract: A polymeric film and method for overcoming the problem of "pinholes" created in filled pouches by the harmonic motion occurring during transport of the filled pouches. The polymeric film composed of from about 5% to about 95% by weight of a first polymeric material having an elongation at break of more than about 500% in the machine direction and more than about 600% in the transverse direction, and from 5% by weight to about 95% by weight of a second polymeric material having a density of at least about 0.915 g/cm.sup.3 and selected from the group consisting of polyethylene and ethylene copolymers. The first polymeric material includes a very low density linear ethylene interpolymerized from ethylene and at least one alpha-olefin in the range of C.sub.3 -C.sub.10. The film may be fabricated into pouches and the pouches stacked for transportation.
