  • Publication number: 20260033553
Abstract: An aerosol-generating system is provided, including: a liquid reservoir configured to store a liquid aerosol-forming substrate; a susceptor configured to receive a supply of liquid aerosol-forming substrate from the liquid reservoir and to heat the liquid aerosol-forming substrate to form an aerosol; an inductor coil configured to generate an alternating magnetic field for heating the susceptor; a power supply configured to supply electricity to the inductor coil; and control circuitry configured to determine a parameter indicative of a rate of temperature change of the susceptor, based on the electricity supplied to the inductor coil, and determine whether the susceptor is supplied with the liquid aerosol-forming substrate, based on a comparison between a dry susceptor threshold and the parameter indicative of the rate of temperature change of the susceptor. A method of controlling an aerosol-generating system is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20260020617
Abstract: A method is provided of controlling heating in an aerosol-generating system including a heating element configured to heat a liquid aerosol-forming substrate supplied to the element, the method including: providing a supply of power to the element; monitoring an electrical parameter indicating a temperature of the element; determining whether the electrical parameter is greater than a maximum threshold value or less than a minimum threshold value indicating that a threshold temperature of the element has been exceeded; interrupting the supply of power to the element when the threshold temperature is exceeded to allow the element to cool to a temperature at which the electrical parameter is below the maximum threshold value or above the minimum threshold value; following cooling, determining whether the element is supplied with the liquid aerosol-forming substrate; and disabling the supply of power if the element is not supplied with the liquid aerosol-forming substrate.

  • Publication number: 20250261701
Abstract: A power supply circuit for an aerosol-generating device is provided, the aerosol-generating device being configured to heat a susceptor element to generate an aerosol from a liquid aerosol-forming substrate supplied to the susceptor element, the power supply circuit including: an inductor coil configured to generate an alternating magnetic field for heating the susceptor element to generate an aerosol from the liquid aerosol-forming substrate supplied to the susceptor element; a power supply; and a controller configured to: control at least one of a current and a voltage between the power supply and the inductor coil, compare at least one of a current and a voltage between the power supply and the inductor coil to a dry-susceptor threshold, and determine whether the susceptor element is supplied with the liquid aerosol-forming substrate based on the comparison. An aerosol-generating device, an aerosol-generating system, and a method of operating an aerosol-generating device are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20250049140
Abstract: A method of controlling an aerosol-generating system is provided, the system including: an aerosol-generating article including a taggant having an identifiable spectroscopic signature and being excitable by light to emit a light emission, and an aerosol-generating device configured to engage with, and disengage from, the article, the device including: a light source to illuminate the article engaged with the device, and a light receiver to receive light emitted by the article engaged with device; and the method including: illuminating, by the light source, the article engaged with the device so as to excite the taggant to emit the light emission, ending the illuminating, by the light source, of the article, receiving, by the light receiver, the light emission after the light source ending the illuminating, and analysing the light emission received by the light receiver to determine a characteristic of the article.

  • Publication number: 20250031771
Abstract: A method for charging a rechargeable lithium-ion battery in an aerosol-generating system is provided, the method including: initiating charging of the rechargeable lithium-ion battery; monitoring an electrical parameter indicative of a charging rate of the rechargeable lithium-ion battery; determining the charging rate of the rechargeable lithium-ion battery by monitoring a change of the electrical parameter over a given time period; and comparing the determined charging rate to a reference charging rate, the reference charging rate being defined by an expected change in the monitored electrical parameter; and if the charging rate deviates from the reference charging rate, inhibiting the rechargeable lithium-ion battery from being charged. A charge controller for an aerosol generating system is also provided. An aerosol-generating device is also provided. A charging case for an aerosol generating device is also provided.

  • Patent number: 8427095
Abstract: The actuation system including a control system, an actuator comprising a drive part and a step motor comprising a rotor and a stator with at least one electric phase, an actuated system comprising a controlled element coupled to the drive part, and an elastic part capable of generating an elastic return force on the rotor of the motor or on the drive part. The control system comprises means for measuring an induced electric parameter on the phase of the stator after switching off the current of said at least one phase of the stator to detect a return of the rotor resulting from elastic return force when a mechanical clearance is overtaken.
