  • Patent number: 8718430
Abstract: A double clad optical fiber having a portion extending along its length along which an outer waveguide cladding and a protective jacket are absent and having faces of the second waveguide cladding at two lengthwisely opposite ends, wherein a water impervious sealant is applied to impede lengthwise diffusion of water through the faces of the second waveguide cladding.

Date of Patent: May 6, 2014
    Assignee: Coractive High-Tech Inc.
    Inventor: Stéphane Chatigny
  • Patent number: 8542971
Abstract: A package for dissipating heat power and/or optical power from an optical fiber component of a device is provided. The package includes a heat sink packaging receptacle for accommodating the optical fiber component having a cavity for receiving a temperature sensitive portion of the optical fiber component. According to one aspect, the package may include a power-dissipative material for dissipating heat power or optical power, the power-dissipative material extending within the cavity and surrounding the temperature-sensitive portion of the optical fiber component. According to another aspect, the package may include at least one channel extending between the cavity and an end of the heat sink packaging receptacle, the channel being in intimate contact with the cladding of the optical fiber component for dissipating heat power and/or optical power from the optical fiber component.

  • Publication number: 20130071082
Abstract: The polarization maintaining optical fiber, or preform therefore, can be of the panda type with a pedestal based on a multi-component silica glass doped with a thermal-expansion-coefficient-reducing dopant which can counteracts the thermal-expansion-coefficient-increasing side-effect of the refractive index-increasing dopant, such that when the preform is drilled to make the stress member channel in a heterogeneous region having both a pedestal portion and a cladding portion, the thermal expansion coefficients are sufficiently close to manage damage which could otherwise be caused by uneven thermal expansion caused by drilling heat.

  • Patent number: 6415172
Abstract: The method for scanning a turbid medium involves displacing an optical signal source over a first face of the medium and a corresponding optical detector over an opposite face from one respective spatial location to another. Each spatial location is associated with a corresponding input region on the first face and a corresponding output region on the opposite second face. The optical detector in response to optical signals detected from each of the output regions generates a primary set of image data, secondary and/or tertiary image data by scanning the turbid medium using input regions and output regions of different sizes. The various sets of image data obtained may be manipulated in any manner, namely subjected to a data processing technique, so as to, for example, highlight the differences or similarities between the images.
