Abstract: Earphones which attach to an interior of a helmet are disclosed. Physical attachment of the earphones to the helmet result in an electrical connection in some embodiments. The headphones may be used without the helmet through the use of strap holder adapters in some embodiments.

Abstract: Connectors for adjusting the location and/or orientation of a helmet accessory relative to a helmet are disclosed. In some embodiments, a connector may have a single lock and/or a single actuator that a user uses to selectively restrict or permit adjustment of the helmet accessory in multiple directions, including translating and/or rotating the helmet accessory relative to the helmet along one or more axes of translation and/or rotation.

Abstract: A helmet assembly is provided including a front mount configured to attach to the front of the helmet above a brim of the helmet, a mandible for protecting a portion of the user's face, a lower edge rim mounting portion such as a halo attached along the lower edge of the helmet for securing the mandible to a helmet and providing power and data conduits. The front mount provides a center top mounting arrangement that operatively connects a center top location of the face shield to a center front mount on the helmet. The mount provides frontal bracket portions for mounting accessories. The helmet assembly provides a helmet shell with a curved shape having a surrounding reinforcing ridge. A reeling system is provided for adjusting front and lower chin straps. Other improvements in helmet assemblies are also disclosed.

Abstract: Various helmet systems as well as their methods of use are described. In one embodiment, a helmet system includes an anchor and a carrier that include corresponding interlocking features that interact to support and maintain an orientation of the carrier relative to the helmet shell when mounted thereon. In another embodiment, a helmet system includes a carrier connected to a helmet shell, and an accessory attachment mount that is selectively connected to the carrier. In yet another embodiment, a helmet system includes a connection and corresponding alignment features between a helmet shell and an accessory attachment mount to both support and maintain an alignment of the accessory attachment mount when it is attached to the helmet shell.

Abstract: Systems and methods for attaching an accessory to a helmet are disclosed. A helmet accessory mounting interface may be attached to a receptacle. The receptacle may be removably or permanently received by a carrier. The carrier may be attached to a helmet having a particular shape and size. The carrier also may be configured to receive any selected type of a plurality of receptacle types which, in turn, corresponds to a particular mounting interface for a helmet accessory. The receptacle may be receivable, in some embodiments removably, by any one of a number of different types of carriers.

Abstract: Integrated helmet systems provide convenient and modular use of electronic devices with a protective helmet. In addition to ease of use, weight savings and space savings also may be realized in certain embodiments. A flexible printed circuit board is used as a power bus to deliver electrical power from a battery pack to various electronic devices. Examples of devices used with protective helmets include: night vision goggles; helmet-mounted display units; ear phones; communication headsets; camera systems; biometric sensors; microprocessors; identify friend or foe devices (IFFs); and GPS devices.

Abstract: A visor assembly for a helmet including two adjustment mechanisms each including a base portion connectable to a side portion of the helmet and a cover portion. The base portion has an adjustment aperture and at least one support member. The cover portion of each adjustment mechanism is manually displaceable between a secured position engaged with the base portion and an exposed position. The cover portion allows access to the adjustment aperture(s) in the exposed position. The support member(s) of each adjustment mechanism are removably engaged to the respective side end portion of the visor. In the secured position, the cover portion prevents disengagement of the support member(s) from the visor. A method of adjusting the position of the visor is also disclosed.

Abstract: A helmet assembly including a mandible bracket configured to connect a mandible to a helmet, at least one strap connected to the mandible bracket and configured to extend from the mandible bracket to a rear portion of a helmet. The assembly includes at least one strap guide having a strap engaging portion connected to the strap along a length of the strap for connecting the strap to a helmet, and a fastener engaging portion configured to connect to a fastener attached to a helmet.

Abstract: A helmet accessory attachment system may include an attachment portion comprising a biasing element, a position member, and a movable member. The movable member may be selectively moveable between a home position which is a first distance from the position member and a release position which is a second distance from the position member. The biasing element may bias the movable member toward the home position. The helmet accessory attachment system also may include a mounting portion attachable to a helmet. The mounting portion may include a first channel to receive the movable member at a first opening and a second channel to receive the position member at a second opening. A third distance between the first opening of the first channel and the second opening of the second channel may be greater than the first distance from the movable member to the position member in the home position.

Abstract: Goggles include a strap, a frame, at least one lens, and first and second connectors. The strap has opposite strap free ends. The frame has a lateral center and opposite lateral end portions. Each connector has a base portion for connecting to the opposite lateral end portion of the frame, and a strap-mounting portion for connecting to the opposite strap free end of the strap. Each strap-mounting portion has a strap connecting end where the strap meets the strap-mounting portion. Each of the first and second connectors have a first orientation for helmet-less usage and a second orientation for helmet usage. The strap connecting end of each connector is located a greater distance from the lateral center of the frame when the connector is in a second orientation than when in the first orientation.
