  • Patent number: 7754341
Abstract: Stretch films which exhibit good puncture and impact resistance while also exhibiting resistance to defect propagation are desired. The films of the present invention have an ultimate stretch of at least 200 percent, a dart impact strength of at least about 700 gms/mil and a catastrophic failure stretch of at least 95 percent of the elongation to break value (CF of 5 or less). The films preferably comprise at least 3 layers and preferably comprise at least 50 percent by weight of polyethylene polymers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 29, 2004
Date of Patent: July 13, 2010
    Assignee: Dow Global Technologies Inc.
Inventors: Wenbin Liang, David B. Ramsey, Staci A. DeKunder, Kalyan Sehanobish, Jesus Nieto, John L. Presa, Shaun E. Pirtle
  • Patent number: 7659343
Abstract: Film layers made from formulated ethylene polymer compositions are disclosed. Film layers made from such formulated compositions have surprisingly good heat seal properties, and an especially good reduction in heat seal initiation temperature. The ethylene polymer compositions have at least one homogeneously branched ethylene/alpha-olefin interpolymer and at least one homogeneously or heterogeneously branched ethylene polymer which has a lower melt index than the first mentioned component. The first homogeneously branched ethylene/alpha-olefin interpolymer has a melt index higher than that of the formulated composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 2, 2004
Date of Patent: February 9, 2010
    Assignee: Dow Global Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Jeffrey J. Wooster, Thomas Oswald, Staci A. DeKunder, Jesus Nieto
  • Publication number: 20080102233
Abstract: The present invention relates to porous or breathable film compositions and processes for producing such compositions. The porous or breathable films preferably comprise a polyolefin. Said films are useful in many applications including bags for packaging cement.

  • Publication number: 20060046048
Abstract: Film layers made from formulated polymer compositions are disclosed. Film layers made from such formulated compositions have suprisingly good heat seal properties, and an especially good reduction in heat seal initiation temperature. The polymer compositions preferably have at least one homogeneously branched ethylene/alpha-olefin interpolymer and at least one heterogeneously branched ethylene polymer. The homogeneously branched ethylene/alpha-olefin interpolymer has a density lower than that of the formulated composition and of the heterogeneously branched ethylene polymer.
