  • Patent number: 6129599
Abstract: An electrically controlled transmission system for a marine vessel that is adapted to avoid vibration to the vessel during a shifting process of the transmission system. The transmission system includes a marine vessel having an inboard motor and an outboard propulsion drive. The motor is coupled to the propulsion drive by the transmission assembly which is at least partially located within a portion of the outboard propulsion drive and is adapted to provide substantially vibration-free shifting of the transmission assembly. The transmission assembly has a drive shaft selectively engageable with at least a forward and reverse gear of the propulsion drive for establishing forward and reverse configurations of the transmission assembly, respectively. The transmission assembly is also electrically and remotely controlled from a distance therefrom between the forward and reverse configurations utilizing electrically actuatable solenoids.

  • Patent number: 5992599
Abstract: A control system for an engine transmission provided with a coupling mechanism for engaging or disengaging coupling of the transmission. The control system has one or more valves movable between two positions for controlling engagement and disengagement of the coupling mechanism. The valves are connected to an automatic control unit which has an intermittent signal supply trigger for supplying an intermittent pulsed signal to the valves, thereby providing an intermittent movement of the valves between the two positions.

  • Patent number: 5921826
Abstract: Angle gearing, especially a lower angle gearing between an intermediate shaft (2) and one or two propeller shafts (6, 7) in a marine outboard drive unit. A conical bevel gear (3) is pre-tensioned on the intermediate shaft against a cone (10) on the intermediate shaft by a nut (13) which is screwed onto a stud (21), which in turn is screwed into a central threaded bore (20) in the intermediate shaft end.

  • Patent number: 5720559
Abstract: A combined bearing and fluid supply unit is disclosed primarily for use in a power transmission system for marine vessels. The unit has a housing having a circular opening. The circular opening is delimited by an inner surface of the housing, and the inner surface is provided with one or more first circumferentially extending channels which respectively accommodate one or more bearings. The bearings are adapted to support a shaft passing through the circular opening. The housing also includes a first bore extending radially from a second circumferentially extending channel in the inner surface of the housing to an outer surface of the housing. This second circumferentially extending channel is adapted to convey fluid passing from the first bore to a first internal passage in the shaft. Preferably, this fluid is used to actuate a clutch carried on the shaft in a given direction.

  • Patent number: 5509863
Abstract: Transmission for boats, comprising an input shaft (2), a reversing mechanism and an output shaft (3). The reversing mechanism is comprised by a right angled bevel gearing with two bevel gears (7, 8), which are freely rotatably mounted on an intermediate shaft (4) and engaged with a bevel gear (6) on the input shaft. The bevel gears (7, 8) each cooperate with an individual clutch (13, 14) respectively, by which one of the bevel gears can be locked to the intermediate shaft. The clutches (13, 14) are placed outside the bevel gearing, i.e. on the sides of the bevel gears (7, 8) facing away from each other in order to place the bevel gears (7, 8) close to each other. The clutches are wet clutches compressible by a piston (19) that moves in a cylinder (20) which in turn communicates with a hydraulic pump (22) driven by one of the input and intermediate shafts (2, 4). The output shaft (3) is driven by a bevel gear (12) having a recess in which one (14) of the clutches is partially received.
