Patent number: 6506855Abstract: Process for polymerizing one or more olefinic monomers in a fluid-bed reactor which is bounded at the bottom by a gas-distributing plate containing apertures, comprising the supply of a gas to the reactor through the gas-distributing plate and optionally the supply of a liquid to the reactor, in which the average rate at which the gas is supplied to the reactor is higher in a first part of the gas-distributing plate whose area equals half that of the gas-distributing plate than the average rate at which the gas is supplied in a second part covering the area of the gas-distributing plate that lies outside the first part and reactor suitable for this process.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 2000Date of Patent: January 14, 2003Assignee: DSM N.V.Inventors: Stanislaus M. Patent number: 6403730Abstract: Fluidized bed reactor process for the polymerization of one or more olefin monomers, wherein the reactor comprises a reaction zone which is confined at the underside by a gas distribution plate and at the top side by a virtual end surface, in which, under operating conditions, a fluidized bed is maintained between the underside and the top side, which reactor is provided with a gas inlet which terminates in the reactor below the gas distribution in which the reaction zone is divided into two or more compartments by one or more substantially vertical partition walls extending from a point located above the gas distribution plate to a point located below the end surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2000Date of Patent: June 11, 2002Assignee: DSM N.V.Inventor: Stanislaus M. Publication number: 20020013429Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a device that are suitable for the preparation of a polymer based on an olefinic monomer and optionally one or more comonomers that are copolymerisable therewith, in a horizontal reactor, divided into at least two zones and fitted with a stirring mechanism, which is operated under subfluidization conditions, the polymer formed being discharged from the reactor separately from other reactor effluent, it being possible to vary the composition of the overall feed to be supplied to a zone between two zones at least and the reactor effluent separated from polymer leaving the reactor as a single stream, at least part of this stream being returned to the reactor as feed after one or more separating steps.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 12, 2001Publication date: January 31, 2002Inventors: Leo Smit, Frits P. Moens, Stanislaus M. P. Mutsers

Patent number: 4701353Abstract: Preparation of granules by making nuclei grow, in a fluidized bed, by causing a liquid material to solidify thereon. The liquid material is sprayed in the bed upwards, with the aid of a spraying device provided with a central channel through which the liquid material is supplied, and a channel concentric therewith carrying a powerful gas stream, with the liquid material contacting the gas stream and being carried with the gas stream to a dilute zone where the growth of the nuclei takes place, which zone is created by the gas stream and is completely within the fluidized bed. The liquid material is made to come out of the central channel as a virtually closed, conical film, with a thrust exceeding the thrust of the gas stream, and this film is nebulized to very fine droplets with the aid of the gas stream. In this process a very small amount of high-energetic gas is needed, while no agglomeration occurs in the bed.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1984Date of Patent: October 20, 1987Assignee: Unie van Kunstmestfabrieken B.V.Inventors: Stanislaus M. P. Mutsers, Gerardus S. P. M. Craenen

Patent number: 4675440Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing purified, virtually odorless, solid benzoic acid obtained from toluene by oxidation with a gas containing molecular oxygen, by means of a treatment using an inert gas or gas mixture, wherein the benzoic acid to be purified is supplied in a liquid state to a fluid or spouted bed granulator in which the prevailing temperature is below the solidification temperature of the benzoic acid and in which the benzoic acid is treated, during and possibly after the granulating process, with the said gas or gas mixture, the impurities present being taken up in whole or in part in the gas or gas mixture, upon which the benzoic acid thus purified is removed from the fluid or spouted bed device.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1986Date of Patent: June 23, 1987Assignee: Stamicarbon B.V.Inventors: Stanislaus M. P. Mutsers, Michael H. Willems, Wilhelmus P. Wolvers

Patent number: 4619843Abstract: Preparation of granules by making solid nuclei grow in a fluidized bed, by causing a liquid material to solidify thereon, the liquid material being introduced into the bed from the bottom upwards with the aid of a feeding device provided with a central channel through which the liquid material is supplied and a channel concentric therewith through which a powerful gas stream is supplied, which creates a rarefied zone in the bed above the feeding device, wherein the liquid material is made to exit from the central channel into the rarefied zone as a virtually closed, conical film, nuclei from the bed are carried through the film with the aid of the powerful gas stream and next, during transport of the so moistened nuclei through the rarefied zone, the liquid material taken up by the nuclei is allowed to solidify. By this process only a small amount of high-energetic gas is required, while very little agglomeration and dust formation occurs.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1984Date of Patent: October 28, 1986Assignee: Unie van Kunstmestfabrieken B.V.Inventor: Stanislaus M. P. Mutsers
