  • Publication number: 20080029113
Abstract: A low sidestream smoke cigarette comprises a conventional tobacco rod, and a combustible treatment paper having a sidestream smoke treatment composition. The treatment composition comprises in combination, an oxygen storage and donor metal oxide oxidation catalyst and an essentially non-combustible particulate adjunct for said catalyst. Improvements are made in the treatment composition and/or the addition of metal oxides or carbonates thereto to improve ash characteristics.
    Type: Application
    Filed: October 9, 2007
    Publication date: February 7, 2008
Inventors: Stanislav Snaidr, E. Becker, Steve Chapman
  • Publication number: 20060225753
Abstract: The invention relates to a cigarette for reducing a ratio of at least one constituent to tar in mainstream smoke. The cigarette comprises at least one of a low efficiency tobacco smoke filter and a tobacco blend having a lower stem content as compared to a conventional tobacco.
    Type: Application
    Filed: February 22, 2006
    Publication date: October 12, 2006
Applicant: Rothmans, Benson & Hedges, Inc.
Inventors: Peter Kaczmarek, Steve Chapman, Gary Black, Stanislav Snaidr
  • Publication number: 20060137701
Abstract: Ceria/zirconia fibres are incorporated into a variety of smokable articles or their separate individual components, in particular, cigarette components such as a cigarette paper/wrapper, tobacco, and/or filter.
    Type: Application
    Filed: September 12, 2003
    Publication date: June 29, 2006
Applicant: ROTHMANS, BENSON & HEDGES INC
    Inventor: Stanislav Snaidr
  • Publication number: 20060060210
Abstract: A device for minimizing cigarette sidestream smoke and reducing free-burn rate of a burning cigarette is disclosed. The device comprises a non-combustible tubular element encasing an effective length of a tobacco charge of a cigarette located in the tubular element. The tubular element minimizes sidestream smoke emission from a burning tobacco charge and reduces free-bum rate of such burning tobacco charge to increase the number of puffs from the burning tobacco charge.
    Type: Application
    Filed: November 9, 2005
    Publication date: March 23, 2006
Applicant: Rothmans, Benson & Hedges Inc.

  • Publication number: 20050170948
Abstract: A process for making a catalytic rare earth metal oxide-coated microporous particulate material that has the rare earth metal oxide coated on outer surfaces of the microporous particulate material. The process comprises the steps of: i) combining an amount of a colloidal dispersion of rare earth metal oxide hydrate with a compatible microporous particulate material to form a slurry, the microporous particulate material having an average pore size less than the particle size of the colloidal dispersion, to position thereby, the colloidal dispersion on the outer surfaces of the microporous particulate material; and ii) heat treating the slurry to fix the rare earth metal oxide to the outer surfaces of the microporous particulate material.

  • Publication number: 20050166936
Abstract: A low sidestream smoke cigarette comprises a conventional tobacco rod and a non-combustible treatment material for the rod. The treatment material has a porosity less than about 200 Coresta units and a sidestream smoke treatment composition. The treatment composition comprises, in combination, an oxygen storage and donor metal oxide oxidation catalyst and an essentially non-combustible finely divided porous particulate adjunct for said catalyst. In addition, the invention provides a low sidestream smoke cigarette unit that comprises a cigarette with conventional cigarette paper surrounding a conventional tobacco rod and a non-combustible treatment material surrounding and being substantially in contact with the conventional cigarette paper.
