  • Patent number: 4674644
Abstract: A one-piece tightly fitting, molded plastic lid intended to be used in association with a container having a laterally-protruding lip extending about the perimeter of its mouth. In each embodiment of the invention the plastic lid is provided with a surrounding depending sidewall having a relatively thin upper web segment which is adapted to deform heightwise to conform to the shape of the protruding container lip as the lid is fitted onto the container. The lower region of the lid sidewall has a resilient skirt which is thicker than the web segment and thus has a greater elastic memory. The sidewall skirt stretches when forced over the protruding lip and then the skirt retracts radially inwardly closely adjacent to the outside wall of the container immediately below the lip to stretch the deformable web segment tightly over the lip to seal the mouth of the container. One aspect of the invention relates to the container which is formed with an integral, outwardly projecting lip about the rim.

  • Patent number: 4474304
Abstract: A plastic container and a one-piece molded plastic lid for the container are provided with a tamper resistant, hermetic seal. The lid includes a top wall and a surrounding depending sidewall. The sidewall has a thin upper web upper portion and a relatively thick lower skirt portion. The mouth of the container includes a circumferential lip. The thin web deforms as the lid is snap fitted onto the container. The deformable web stretches into close conformity and sealing engagement with the lip of the container, the lower skirt region of the lid maintaining the web in a tightly constricted configuration about the lip. The skirt is sealed to the sidewall of the plastic container by a circumferential sealing strip formed integrally with and extending downwardly from the lower edge of the lid skirt. The lower portion of the sealing strip is attached directly to the sidewall of the plastic container by adhesive or welding.

  • Patent number: 4274350
Abstract: The attachment is primarily used as a replacement for the conventional presser foot typically employed on an industrial sewing machine, and is in particular useful when stitching multiple layer fabrics having synthetic backings. The attachment is for pressing the fabric being stitched against parallel arranged feed dogs and includes a wheel assembly frame supported from one end of a presser arm which is, in turn, pivotally supported at its other end from the machine. The wheel assembly supports a wheel mounted for rotation about a substantially horizontal axis and preferably of a yieldable rubber or rubber-like material that overlies one of the feed dogs of the sewing machine, and a presser foot mounted beside the wheel having a lower pressing surface and overlying a second feed dog of the sewing machine.

  • Patent number: 4111476
Abstract: An improved latching arrangement is provided for a rigid container having a lid including latching arms pivotally disposed at opposite sides of the container for engaging loops which depend from the periphery of the lid. Each of the latching arms is pivotally mounted to the container sidewall and has a flexible end that interferes, by a bending action, with the container sidewall providing a snap action which retains the latch arm in either a locked or unlocked position. In an alternate embodiment the latch arms are pivotally supported from the loops of the lid, and each have a pivot bar that engages securing hooks extending from the sidewall of the container.

  • Patent number: 4035009
Abstract: An improved latching arrangement is provided for a container and lid of the type in which the container has a flexible, resilient sidewall. Latching arms are pivoted to opposite sides of the container sidewall and engage loops which depend from the periphery of the lid. Each of the latching arms is mounted to the container sidewall in a manner such that when the latching arm is pivoted between its locked and unlocked positions a portion of the latching arm interferes with the flexible sidewall of the container which causes the container to flex, resiliently and provide a snap action which retains the latch arm in either of the locked or unlocked positions.
