Abstract: A process for the fusing of xerographic images comprising: (1) creating a xerographic latent image; (2) developing the image with a toner composition comprising a mixture of toner particles and colloidal silica particles; (3) transferring the developed image to a substrate; and (4) subsequently fixing the developed image to the substrate with a flash fusing device by applying an energy pulse therefrom of from about 2 to about 5 milliseconds. The process is useful for enabling image de-enhancement when the fusing energy is applied over a period of from about 2 to about 5 milliseconds.

Abstract: A fuser having an illuminator disposed within a relatively narrow box-like cavity, the cavity including a plurality of reflecting surfaces to produce substantially uniform radiation across the cavity, the reflecting surfaces including a flat diffuse reflector, an essentially parabolic diffuse reflector, an a specular reflector disposed at one end of the parabolic diffuse reflector.

Abstract: A storage buffer for a moving web comprises a collection bin having an opening through which the web can be randomly dumped under the influence of gravity; means for floating randomly dumped web within the collection bin upon a cushion of gas without mechanical support of said web; a web exit within a wall of said collection bin; and means for guiding pressurized gas over web passing through the web exit.

Abstract: Airborne magnetic toner is recovered from the vicinity of a magnetizable recording medium by magnetically attracting the toner with a magnetic field which does not alternate in magnetic polarity thereby magnetically polarizing the toner; and, subsequently passing the polarized magnetic toner through a magnetic field which alternates in magnetic polarity thereby decreasing the magnetic polarization of the magnetic toner. This procedure maintains the flow characteristics of the toner and avoids the clumping together of toner normally associated with magnetic recovery of magnetic toner.

Abstract: In a magnetic scavenging system for recovering airborne magnetic toner from a magnetizable recording member, alternating polarity magnetic field producing means are provided in the path of flow of toner between a magnetic scavenger and a toner reservoir.
