  • Patent number: 4354449
Abstract: Two side coaters and methods of coating paper on both sides are disclosed in which a web of paper to be coated is moved in a generally upward direction in partially wrapped relation to a coating roll, so that one side of the web is in contact with and supported by the roll. This one side of the web is coated by a first coating material which is applied by the coating roll. This coating material is applied to the coating roll by an applicator roll, either directly in which a puddle is formed between the applicator roll and the coating roll, or through transfer from a pair of metering rolls in which the coating puddle is formed between the metering rolls.

  • Patent number: 4231318
Abstract: A dual blade fountain coater for simultaneously coating the opposite sides of a moving web of paper includes a pair of oppositely positioned, non-contacting fountains and a pair of oppositely positioned metering blade assemblies which are mounted for movement about a common transverse pivot axis, which pivot axis is substantially coincidental with the blade contacting region on the web. Each assembly is independently adjustable of the other for adjusting blade angle and each fountain is similarly independently adjustable for varying the coating contacting region and dwell time. Metering bars may be mounted on the blades.

  • Patent number: 4069092
Abstract: Odor elimination process for plastic film in which at least two extruded plastic films are combined outside of the die. The process utilizes a valve adapting a single extruder to supply two melt streams to a dual melt chamber dual slot die. One melt chamber of the dual slot die is heated to a temperature below the temperature of oxidation of the resin of the thermoplastic material extruded through the die. The other melt chamber is heated above the oxidation temperature of the thermoplastic material extruded through the die, to increase the adhesive qualities of the extruded film to effectively bond with the thermoplastic material heated to a low temperature. The two films are then combined and the high temperature film is sandwiched between the low temperature film and a substrate, trapping the odor of the high temperature film. In a modified form of the invention, the film heated to a high temperature is passed through a tortuous path and heated to its high temperature while passing through this path.
