  • Patent number: 6041571
Abstract: A capping apparatus and a magnetic coupling assembly therefor comprises a capping head for applying a cap, a drive mechanism for driving the capping head, and a separable magnetic coupling for selectively coupling the capping head to the drive mechanism. The separable coupling is operable to selectively drive the capping head at an initial rotational speed and for selectively de-coupling the capping head from the drive mechanism while the capping head is rotating. This allows the capping head to be moved toward a container to place the cap on the container while preventing the drive mechanism from continuing to drive the capping head as the cap is placed on the container.

  • Patent number: 5658619
Abstract: A system and method for adhering resin to the exterior of the bottles includes a coating section, a flash-off section, and a curing section. In the coating section, the bottles are dipped in a solution of resin and solvent. Only the exterior of the bottles is coated. The bottles are fed from the coating section to the flash-off section where they will be conveyed along a zig-zag path. In the flash-off section, air will pass over the bottles in order to remove solvent from their exterior. The bottles are then fed to the curing section where they pass in front of a plurality of ultraviolet lights. The ultraviolet lights will cure the resin on the exterior of the bottles.

  • Patent number: 4688608
Abstract: A filling valve mechanism for cans is presented. The valve includes a sleeve slidably mounted on a pair of pins and limited in downward motion by means of a stop. The sleeve carries an O-ring circumferentially thereabout for engaging within the throat of a container or can to be filled. The O-ring is of slightly greater diameter than the throat of the can such that sealing engagement is achieved. Also carried on the sleeve is a resilient compressible stripping member adapted for engaging the mouth of the can. The stripping member compresses against the mouth of the can, short of full compression by virtue of the limited downward movement of the sleeve against the stop. After the can is filled, the stripping member urges the O-ring from the throat of the can while holding the can in place.

  • Patent number: 4363339
Abstract: A filling valve arrangement for a counter-pressure container filling apparatus in which the filling valve arrangement is mounted in a bottom outlet opening in the usual bowl which holds the liquid under gas pressure, and an extension on the filling valve supports a filling head to receive the neck of a container in operative position so that a gas vent control carried by the vent tube is located in the container to admit gas into the container and to vent gas from the container as liquid replaces the gas in a rapid exchange of liquid for the gas up to the desired liquid level.

  • Patent number: 4102366
Abstract: A roller-gear drive means for the rotary filler head portion of a container filling machine having a stationary base portion which is equipped with a pair of rotary starwheel units for directing containers into and out of the filler head, comprising a drive motor mounted in the base portion in direct driving relationship with a first of the starwheel units through a pair of gear means secured one to the driveshaft of the motor and one to the mounting shaft of the aforesaid first of the starwheel units.

  • Patent number: 3986319
Abstract: Arrays of articles are stacked one on top of another in a U-shaped shroud structure which includes vacuum means to retain the upper array while the lower array of articles is positioned therebeneath. A carton blank is simultaneously fed from a stack to a position over the pocket of a intermittently operated conveyor. A vertically reciprocable mandrel forms the flat blank into a U-shape in one of these pockets. Both the mandrel and shroud are mounted on a shifting carriage so that as the mandrel is moved to an inactive position, the shroud shifts the arrays of articles onto the bottom panel of the U-shaped carton blank. Flap folding devices then fold certain of the end flaps of the carton and the shroud is then raised clear of the partially formed box so that the top panel can be folded. The manufacturer's flap and certain other end flaps are then folded up and the box conveyed by the pocket chain conveyor to a horizontal compression unit.
