  • Patent number: 5133046
Abstract: An expert system is organized according to Bayes' theorem. The system includes a diagnostic module that generates a diagnosis in the form of probability distributions. The diagnostic module also is responsive to evidence in the form of discretized time trajectories in the value space of the observable variables. The diagnostic module is also responsive to data from a knowledge base that represents the trajectories of the possible states of the system and the associated values of the likelihood that the various trajectories of observed evidence would be present if the system were in that state.

  • Patent number: 5006023
Abstract: An anchoring assembly and method for securing a threaded elongate member such as a bolt or screw in a material engaging position in a preformed hole in a relatively frangible material. The anchoring assembly is formed of a threaded elongate member and coil surrounding and engaging at least some of the threads of the elongate member and extend beyond the outer transverse boundary of the elongate member. The elongate member is formed with a reduced diameter preferably tapered entry end, a threaded body portion, and preferably a headed head end. The coil is formed of a uniform cross-section wire having a diameter permitting the coil to seat on the threaded body portion of the elongate member. An anchoring tab or tang having a thickness less than the diameter of the wire forming the coil is formed on at least one end of the coil with a thickness preferably between 90% and 110% of half the difference in diameter between the maximum outer diameter of the elongate threaded member and the outer diameter of the coil.

  • Patent number: 4570891
Abstract: An anchoring device for securing a member to a wall, particularly where there is access to only one surface of the wall. The anchoring device employs a toggle plate having a threaded opening therein, with the toggle plate dimensioned to fit into a hole through the wall to which it is desired to secure the member. An elongate engaging element coupleable to the member to be secured to the wall and dimensioned of a size to extend through the wall opening into the toggle plate opening is provided. At least a portion of the engaging element is flexible so that at least a part of the engaging element may be bent into a plane parallel to and in sufficiently close proximity to the toggle plate to permit the toggle plate and engaging element to be simultaneously inserted through the wall opening, with the toggle plate thereafter assuming a position perpendicular to the engaging element and subject to being drawn up on the engaging element against the wall.

  • Patent number: 4109247
Abstract: A clutter immune radar where the interrogating unit transmits a modulated interrogation signal to a remote unit, which radiates an information-bearing reply signal, in order to enable the interrogating unit to obtain remote unit information and range by the use of three bandpass filter channels where one bandpass filter bandwidth is equal to the sum of the other two bandwidths.

  • Patent number: 4107680
Abstract: A Doppler speed sensor for a ground vehicle wherein errors due to vehicle tilt relative to the ground surface and initial mounting angle error are substantially eliminated by using a first antenna with its radiation pattern directed down and forward and a second antenna with its radiation pattern directed down and rearward, so the principal axes of the radiation patterns are 90.degree. apart. A novel digital technique for processing the signals received from such antennas is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4043245
Abstract: An anchoring device is disclosed providing engaging means for an attaching member which it is desired to secure with respect to a wall, particularly when there is access to only one surface of the wall. The anchoring device may be formed to provide either secure friction engagement, or threaded engagement with an attaching member, such as a bolt, screw, nail, or friction pin, normally used to fasten an item of hardware or the like to a wall. The anchoring device comprises a toggle plate dimensioned for insertion into a blind opening in the wall to which attaching is desired and an elongate runner is pivotally secured to the toggle plate which may be shaped to form its own hole in the wall member. One or more openings dimensioned to engage the attaching member is formed in the toggle plate.

  • Patent number: 4017719
Abstract: Circuit and method for spacing the output signals from a binary rate multiplier by adjusting the rate of the internal clock of the binary rate multiplier to a value approximating (N+1) times f.sub.0 where N represents the multiplier of the input frequency f.sub.0. The output signals thereby produced are substantially evenly spaced at a rate N times f.sub.0.

  • Patent number: 3984835
Abstract: A homodyne communication system comprising an interrogating unit and a plurality of responsive remote units wherein a continuous wave RF signal is transmitted from the interrogating unit to illuminate a remote unit. The remote unit causes a return (reply) signal to be transmitted or reflected back to the interrogating unit. A sample of the transmitted (interrogation) signal is mixed with the return signal. Amplitude nulls in the mixer output signal at given relative phase relationships between interrogation and reply signals, are substantially eliminated by selectively shifting the relative phase of the signals. Also disclosed are a homodyne communication system utilizing phase modulation to impress FSK signaling on the reply signal and an automatic vehicle location system utilizing the present invention.

  • Patent number: 3968492
Abstract: An adaptive parameter signal processor for continuous wave radar ranging systems which provides non-quantized measurements of range. Means are provided to select a suitable portion of the difference frequency wave form, excluding any phase reversal. The period of the difference frequency is measured using the selected portion of the waveform and is converted to frequency. The frequency is, in turn, converted to range. The system parameters are automatically adjusted in accordance with the difference frequency waveform.
