  • Publication number: 20150315763
Abstract: A backfilling device for backfilling an open trench and padding a pipe within the trench has a lateral earth moving device and a sifting device. The backfilling device is attached to a tractor that moves the lateral earth moving device into a backfill spoil pile adjacent to the trench with the sifting device located above the trench. The lateral earth moving devices moves the backfill spoil material laterally into a rotating drum of the sifting device. Smaller particles of the backfill material fall through the rotating drum, which is also vibrating to backfill the trench and pad the pipe with backfill fines. The oversize debris in the backfill material continues to move laterally and falls out the end of the rotating drum to form a pile of large piece backfill material on the side of the trench opposite from the backfill spoil pile.

  • Publication number: 20100074797
Abstract: This process comprises aerating chicken litter into a first windrow and aerating a second time into a second windrow. Each of the windrows are permitted to achieve a temperature of approximately 130° F. internally. The litter is then spread to completely cover the entire area and a second set of chickens is placed on the litter. The more aeration times that the windrow is made the more the litter is pasteurized and the pathogens and beetles are removed.

  • Patent number: 5975167
Abstract: A free-swinging cutter for use on a machine adapted to cut and clear brush and trees, including a generally stirrup-shaped member having two opposing sidewalls, a leading face with a cutting edge for cutting, and a rearward face opposite the leading face. The cutter is adapted to be swingably mounted at a point offset from its center of mass so that the cutting edge is disposed below the rearward face to form a relief heel. The invention also includes a method of creating a relief area on a cutter swingably mounted on the rotating drum to improve chip flow, which includes the steps of providing a cutter as described above and swingably mounting the cutter to a drum about an axis offset from the cutter's center of mass so that the cutting edge is disposed below the rearward face when the cutter extends radially from the drum following the rotation of the drum.

  • Patent number: 5848627
Abstract: A rator for a land clearing device or forestry shredder which comprises a plurality of anchors spaced apart, offset, and arranged on a horizontal cylinder. Cutting elements are mounted between adjacent anchors, the anchors arranged such that there are no gaps between the effective areas of the cutting elements as the rotator spins. The anchors can also be arranged so that at least one cutting element is located at or near the cutting element area at all times.

  • Patent number: 4283867
Abstract: A backfilling machine having an auger with two spaced apart flighting segments thereon. One of the flighting segments has right hand flighting and the other of the segments has left hand flighting. The segments are rotated in unison so as to propel material from the side of the trench inwardly toward the space between the two flightings which space is aligned over the trench so that the filling material falls into the trench by gravity. The flightings are adjustably mounted on a central shaft for movement toward and away from one another to accommodate trenches of varying widths.

  • Patent number: 4159585
Abstract: The trenching machine of the present invention comprises a support frame, a continuous member either of the wheel or chain type having a plurality of excavating members mounted thereon, mounting means retentively movably mounting the continuous member to the frame, for movement of the excavating members in a continuous path, the mounting means comprising at least two rotatable wheels mounted to said frame for rotation and positioned as to engage the continuous member for rotatable retentive engagement therewith, at least one of the wheels being movable toward and away from the other of the wheels, and power means for moving the movable wheel away from the other wheel so that the wheels may be adjusted to take up the slack between them and the continuous member. The excavating members are of semi-circular construction, some of the members facing in one direction and the other of the members facing in the opposite direction so that each excavating member excavates approximately half of the trench.

  • Patent number: 4110920
Abstract: A slack takeup apparatus for a circular excavating rim includes a support frame and first and second rim engaging wheels mounted on the support frame in spaced-apart relation for rotation about stationary axes. A third rim engaging wheel is rotatably mounted at the free end of a pivot member connected to the support frame. An extensible power member is pivotally connected to and extended between the third wheel and support frame for pivotally moving the third wheel and pivot arm to take up slack between the wheels and circular rim.
