Abstract: A cargo container has a frame (3) and a door (8,9) mounted on the frame. A support, preferably in the form of stacking plate (30), is mounted on the door so that when the door is closed and excessive loads applied externally to the container distort the container frame, the support (30) mounted on the door (8.9) engages the frame (3). The support and the door thereby together share the loading forces of the external load with the container frame. Conveniently, the support is spaced from an ISO lifting casting (26) constituting part of the frame (3) of a container, when there are no external loading forces applied to the container frame. Preferably, part of the support is provided by one (19) of two side members (19,20) of the door arranged to extend in a direction between upper and lower crossmembers of the container, in use.

Abstract: A door construction for a shipping container. (1) to ISO standard is provided in which there is a main frame (6) arranged to be pivotally mounted on the door frame on the container, locking means (8,9) mounted on the door (2,3) within the profile of the door so that the opposed ends of the locking means (8,9) extend beyond opposed edges of the main frame and seal means (13) extending around the edges of the main frame which are to be engaged with the container door frame for sealing the door (2,3) relative to the container (1), the seal (13) at least in the region of the locking means being offset inwardly of the locking means. The construction permits the door (2,3) and its locking members (8,9) to be within the wall profile yet maintain sealing round the door.

Abstract: Freight carrying platforms are disclosed which can be stacked when empty and interconnected to enable the stack to be handled as a unit by conventional handling equipment for ISO Containers. Each platform has a set of links in the form of closed loops. Each such loop is traversed by a bar rigid with the platform and in the unlinked state hangs down from its bar. During linking, each link is lifted into a slot in the next superimposed platform and engaged by a sliding bolt of the latter. Two types of lateral registration means are disclosed.

Abstract: A folding container has a base for carrying goods and end walls with corner posts articulated to the base by pins. Each corner post has a heel which just clears a bridge member above its arcuate path of movement. To lock each corner post upright, a locking member can be slid into the gap between the bridge member and the heel parallel to the axis of articulation to transmit compression forces directly from the heel portion to the bridge member.

Abstract: A collapsible goods-shipping container of the type used for loading on ships, trailer, trucks or railroad cars has a base, side walls hinged at their lower edges to sides of the base for folding inwards one over the other onto the base, end walls incorporating corner posts by which they are pivoted to stub corner posts of the base for folding over the side walls in the collapsed condition and a roof or lid somewhat shorter than the overall length of the container and adapted to rest on the upper edges of the side and end walls, the roof being somewhat shorter than the base to enable the roof to be stowed under the folded end walls, the remainder of the roof being formed by top portions of the end walls. Sealing means are provided on the various components so as to exclude water when the container is in its erected condition.
