  • Publication number: 20160134317
Abstract: Methods and devices for implementing dynamic receive mode management to improve data throughput and paging performance on a multi-subscriber identification module (SIM) wireless communication device may include detecting, on a protocol stack associated with a first SIM, an active communication in a first network, detecting, on a protocol stack associated with a second SIM, an idle mode paging cycle in a second network, prompting entry into a selected dual receive mode on the shared RF resource, and monitoring at least one performance metric for the idle mode paging cycle associated with the second SIM while in the dual receive mode. Based on the monitored performance metric while in the dual receive mode, the wireless communication device may determine whether paging performance is degraded for the second SIM, and if so, trigger entry into a fallback mode on the shared RF resource.

  • Patent number: 9338716
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are presented for piecewise aggregation of overhead messages. According to a method that is presented, that the method can include starting a timer having a time period during which a first radio access technology (RAT) of the UE attempts to obtain overhead messages from a cell. The method can also include obtaining, at a radio resource of the UE and during the time period, a first portion of the overhead messages from the cell. In addition, the method may include determining that the timer has expired and handing over the radio resource to a second RAT of the UE when the timer has expired. The method also may include aggregating the first portion of the overhead messages with a second portion of the overhead messages. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

  • Publication number: 20150350994
Abstract: The disclosure provides for monitoring neighbor cells while in an offline idle mode. A wireless device monitors cells during a periodic monitoring cycle while in the offline idle mode. In particular, the wireless device monitors the cells by classifying each cell of a list of neighbor cells as one of a first type of neighbor cell having valid overhead information stored in a cache and a second type of neighbor cell that is not associated with valid overhead information stored in the cache. The wireless device selects a monitoring set including an active cell and a subset of the neighbor cells including a cell of the second type of neighbor cell. The wireless device performs a pilot search of the monitoring set, during a periodic monitoring cycle while in a first idle mode state, to determine a signal strength of each cell in the monitoring set for a cell change.

  • Publication number: 20150271822
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for improving system acquisition performance in multi-SIM devices are provided. In one aspect, a method of acquiring a signal comprises defining a size of a frequency bin for a first radio access technology based on a frequency error for a second radio access technology. The method further includes determining that the signal is not acquirable using the defined size for a predetermined number of consecutive acquisition attempts. The method further includes adjusting the size of the frequency bin based on the determining. The method further includes determining whether the signal is not acquirable using the adjusted size. In one implementation, the method further includes identifying the frequency error for the second radio access technology. In one implementation, the adjusting the size of the frequency bin comprises disregarding the frequency error for the second radio access technology.

  • Patent number: 9077419
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for selecting one or more suitable antennas for use during power-up/initial acquisition and out of service modes are disclosed. In some examples, initial system acquisition may be performed for a particular receive circuit utilizing a selected one of a first antenna or a second antenna, based on a channel characteristic, such as an automatic gain control (AGC) value corresponding to a received signal energy utilizing either of the antennas. In another example, initial system acquisition utilizing either a receive diversity determination algorithm or an antenna switching determination algorithm may be performed based on a channel characteristic, such as an AGC value corresponding to a received signal energy utilizing one of the antennas coupled to one of the receive circuits.
