  • Patent number: 3930372
Abstract: A method and arrangement for preventing an underground manhole assembly from moving upwards in response to a change in soil conditions beneath the assembly are disclosed herein. For example, in the event the soil directly beneath the assembly includes substantial moisture and in the event this moisture freezes, the latter expands against the base of the assembly and in many cases pushes the assembly in an upward direction. The method and arrangement disclosed herein eliminates this upward movement by the utilization of a pressurized fluid barrier which is maintained between the manhole assembly and the soil directly beneath the assembly.
