Abstract: A portable phone is described having a display, input device for inputting information and instructions, and a control unit controlling the display in dependence on the operation of the input device. The input device includes a navigation device for moving a marker in an active part of the display. The navigation device is provided with a roller body and includes the ability for detecting the rolling and depression of the roller body and for providing control signals in response thereto. In an information input mode, the control unit moves the marker in the display in dependence on the rolling control signal and generates a pop-up window upon reception of the depression control signal, the pop-up window covering a part of the active display and containing operations which are allowed in a position defined by the marker.

Abstract: A radiophone is provided with a user interface including a display and a keypad. The keypad comprises a set of keys for entering data, at least one multi-functionality key and a menu scrolling device for scrolling between functionalities of said at least one multi-functionality key. The display comprises a basic screen area for displaying information, said displayed information comprising information entered by said data entering keys and information received from the network, a separate field for displaying the present functionality of said at least one multi-functionality key; and an auxiliary field for displaying alternative functionalities of said at least one multi-functionality key. A controller controls the functionality of said multi-functionality key and the information displayed in the display, and displays said auxiliary field on top of a part of the basic screen area in response to the activation of the scrolling device.

Abstract: A phone number database has a first group of memory locations with associated speed dialing facility and a second group of memory locations without speed dialing facility. A phone number may be provided with speed dialing facility when this phone number is already stored without speed dialing facility in the second group by indicating the phone number whose speed dialing status is to be changed, indicating a memory location with a phone number with the desired speed dialing status, and interchanging the speed dialing status of the two phone numbers.
