  • Patent number: 6603489
Abstract: An electronic calendaring system that automatically predicts calendar entries based upon previous activities. The system presents a user with an intelligent sequence of forms which query the user about events such as hotels for travel, attendees for meeting, etc. The initial information contained within the forms is generated by looking at previous records generated by the user; or in the case of a first time use, either selected defaults or blanks for data entry. Furthermore, the system automatically presents the user with an option to select a new activity or maintain the previous one. By presenting a structured sequence of appropriate forms and event history, the calendaring system simplifies planning for the user, or refreshes the user's memory, thereby intelligently assisting the user in the entry of event data.

  • Publication number: 20030135486
Abstract: Analysis of a history of previous location reports received from a tracked entity is performed and this analysis is utilized to estimate the relevance of future location reports over time. This is accomplished via associating a computed expiration time with each location report, wherein this expiration time is used by an application to estimate the relevance degradation of a location report over time. Thus, the expiration time value acts as a threshold that controls the shape of a relevance degradation curve of a location report.

  • Publication number: 20030130987
Abstract: Rather than attempting to compute an average position where the mobile object might reside, location reports are ranked according to their relevance using a combination of spatial, temporal, and associative factors. This is particularly beneficial when the number of location information sources is large due to many independent trackable mobile objects (mobile phone, car, credit cards, identity cards, etc.) one might be associated with.

  • Publication number: 20030120654
Abstract: A system and method of metadata search ranking is disclosed. The present invention utilizes a combination of popularity and/or relevancy to determine a search ranking for a given search result association. Given the exponential growth rate currently being experienced in the Internet community, the present invention provides one of the few methods by which searches of this vast distributed database can produce useful results ranked and sorted by usefulness to the searching web surfer. The present invention permits embodiments incorporating a Ranking System/Method (0100) further comprising a Session Manager (0101), Query Manager (0102), Popularity Sorter (0103), and Association (0104) functions. These components may be augmented in some preferred embodiments via the use of a Query Entry means (0155), Search Engine (0156); Data Repository (0157), Query Database (0158), and/or a Resource List (0159).

  • Patent number: 6546388
Abstract: A method for presenting to an end-user the intermediate matching search results of a keyword search in an index list of information. The method comprising the steps of: coupling to a search engine a graphical user interface for accepting keyword search terms for searching the indexed list of information with the search engine; receiving one or more keyword search terms with one or more separation characters separating there between; performing a keyword search with the one or more keyword search terms received when a separation character is received; and presenting the number of documents matching the keyword search terms to the end-user presenting a graphical menu item on a display. A system and method of metadata search ranking is disclosed. The present invention utilizes a combination of popularity and/or relevancy to determine a search ranking for a given search result association.

  • Patent number: 6484162
Abstract: A system and method associates a label and description with a search query such that the query, label, and description can be stored in a shared query repository so that queries can be retrieved by multiple users for reuse. The shared query repository can be searched, so that an appropriate query can be located, retrieved, and then submitted for execution over a document database by a search engine. Retrieved queries can be combined with other retrieved queries or modified with new search terms, and the new combined search query can be used for a new search on the database. The database search system and method efficiently permits reuse of search queries and facilitates sharing of search strategies.
