  • Publication number: 20060131814
Abstract: A sealing arrangement for sealing a gap between two components which can move rotationally with respect to one another about a common axis of rotation, having a brush seal on a first component which interacts with a sealing surface of the second component. The sealing surface is conical in form, with at least one component being axially displaceable and adjustable with respect to the other component in order to reduce the gap between the brush seal and the second component.

  • Publication number: 20060055118
Abstract: The invention relates to a sealing arrangement. The inventive sealing arrangement serves to seal rotational-symmetric parts. To this end, at least one first sealing device (20), which is provided in the form of a ring seal, is placed between the rotational-symmetric parts. According to the invention, a second sealing device (21), which is provided in the form of a brush seal, is also placed between the rotational-symmetric parts.

  • Patent number: 6932347
Abstract: An arrangement for a non-hermetic seal between a stator and a rotor of a turbomachine in the root region of guide blades belonging to the stator. The arrangement includes a brush sealing ring which is mounted on the guide blades via a spoke centering means and whose bristles together with a rotating sealing surface form a fluid barrier which is permeable in a defined manner. On the sealing side of lower pressure, a supporting ring for the bristles is arranged at a slight distance from the rotating sealing surface, and this supporting ring is integrally connected to the guide blade roots and can be segmented by parting seams. The spoke centering means is permeable to pressure, as a result of which the brush sealing ring is pressure-relieved axially, with the exception of the bristle area between the sealing surface and supporting ring.

  • Publication number: 20050116423
Abstract: A brush seal assembly is provided for sealing components which move relative to one another. One of the components includes a recess or groove for accommodating a clamping sleeve which supports bristles. A support plate which is formed separately from the component and the clamping sleeve is pressed into the recess and abuts the recess wall surfaces and the clamping sleeve to hold the same in a predetermined working position.

  • Publication number: 20050006968
Abstract: A sealing arrangement for a non-hermetic seal between a stator and a rotor includes a brush gasket having a plurality of bristles wound around a core element and affixed to the core element with a clamping element. The brush gasket is disposed at least partially in a receiving space delimited by a support element and by a cover element. The support element, the cover element, and the brush gasket are secured using at least one fitting element in at least one recess, especially in an axial groove or bore, in the stator. In addition to being positioned by using the at least one fitting element, the components may also be affixed to the stator using an attachment element.

  • Patent number: 6352263
Abstract: The invention relates to a brush seal 1 with bristles 3 arranged at an angle, for sealing a rotor (2) against a stator. The brush seal (1) has a support plate (9) with a longitudinal section (10) and a support section (11). The brush seal (1) also has bristles (3) with shaft sections (6) and bristle sections (7) arranged at an angle to the shaft sections (6). The end of the bristle sections (7) run against the sealing area (U) of the rotor (2). A bending clearance (13) is provided between the shaft sections (6) of the bristles (3) and the support plate (9). Between the bristle sections (7) and across the entire length of the support section (11) of the support plate (9) there is a gap (12) which closes if there is differential pressure on opposite sides of the bristles (3).

  • Patent number: 5944320
Abstract: A brush seal (1, 101) seals a circumferential gap (S.sub.1) between two relatively rotatable machine components (2, 102; 3, 103), such as the rotor or a shaft and a stator of a fluid flow machine, such as a gas turbine engine. A plurality of seal bristles (4, 104) are fixed in a bristle holder (5) in an annular shape, and are mounted on the stator (3, 103) so that the free bristle ends (7, 107) extend toward and provide a seal against a seal surface (9, 109) of the rotor (2, 102). Each bristle includes a middle body portion (4A) that is tilted at a first tilt angle (.alpha..sub.1) in the circumferential direction following the rotation direction, and the free bristle end (7, 107) is bent or angled relative to the tilted body portion (4A) so as to extend at a second tilt angle (.alpha..sub.2) which is smaller than the first tilt angle (.alpha..sub.1). Preferably, the first tilt angle (.alpha..sub.1) is in the range from 30.degree. to 60.degree., while the second tilt angle (.alpha..sub.
