  • Publication number: 20190215746
Abstract: A processing unit (104) and a method therein for initiating activation of a target cell. A communications device (106) is operating in a first cell (108a) of a wireless communications network (100). The processing unit is configured to obtain an estimate of a radio condition of the communications device in a target cell (108b) comprised in the wireless communications network. Further, the processing unit is configured to determine, based on the estimate of the radio condition, an energy saving obtained if offloading the communications device from the first cell to the target cell. Furthermore, the processing unit is configured to initiate activation of the target cell in dependence on the determined energy saving and on an activation decision.

  • Publication number: 20160353292
Abstract: According to an aspect, a network node operating in a first RAN according to a first RAT is the target of an inter-RAT (IRAT) handover. The network node receives a handover request for a user equipment from a cell in a second RAN operating according to a second RAT. After handover of the user equipment to a cell in the first RAN is completed, the network node configures the user equipment to measure one or more frequencies corresponding to the second RAN. Based on measurements reported by the user equipment for the one or more frequencies, the network node identifies one or more detected cells exceeding a measurement threshold, and sends a handover report towards the second RAN. The handover report includes, for at least one detected cell exceeding the measurement threshold, a physical cell identifier for the detected cell and a frequency identifier for the detected cell.

  • Publication number: 20160353350
Abstract: According to an embodiment there is provided a first network node (122) for use in a wireless network (100), the first network node (122) being adapted to forward information on movements of a wireless device to a second network node (124) over an interface (106; 108); wherein the information on movements is represented by a cause value in a first field that uses an interface-dependent encoding and a cause value in a second field that uses an interface-independent encoding. A corresponding second network node and methods of operating the network nodes are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20090016274
Abstract: A Generic Access Network Controller (GANC) for providing both location and charging information from a Generic Access Network (GAN) to a core network. During registration of a mobile station (MS) the GANC determines a Charging Cell Global Identity (Charging-CGI) and a Location Cell Global Identity, (Location-CGI) for the MS and stores the CGIs in an MS context. The MS sends to the GANC, a request a to establish a signaling connection, and includes an Establishment Cause IE indicating a reason for the connection. The GANC selects from the MS context, either the Charging-CGI or the Location-CGI based upon the Establishment Cause IE, and sends the selected CGI to the core network in a message triggering a signaling connection.

  • Publication number: 20080194265
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and arrangements for providing an estimation of a cell radius in a mobile telecommunications network. The arrangement comprises means for estimating the path loss by using an arbitrarily path loss estimation method wherein a at least a pre-defined cell radius is used as input. The use of the arbitrarily path loss estimation method results in a path loss data file comprising values associated with the signal strength for pixels within the cell defined by the first cell radius. The arrangement is characterized in that it further comprises means for estimating a first updated cell radius by excluding pixels having a signal strength below a predetermined threshold from the cell area having the pre-defined cell radius, wherein the first updated cell radius is the cell radius of the remaining cell area when said pixels are excluded.
