  • Patent number: 11267214
Abstract: Manufacturing hard-metal pressed articles includes providing a multi-part die comprising a plurality of lateral mold parts defining lateral surfaces of a cavity for the article. At least one of the plurality of lateral mold parts defines a portion of an upper side of the cavity. The lateral mold parts and at least two lateral punch parts are fed. At least two of the plurality of lateral mold parts are provided with a guide recess for one of the at least two lateral punch parts. A filling unit feeds an opening of the cavity which is filled with a hard-metal powder. At least one upper mold part is fed, which defines a portion of the upper side of the cavity. The lateral mold parts and the upper mold part are held to form the cavity. The powder is compressed with at least two lateral punch parts and the part demolded.

  • Patent number: 11241737
Abstract: Manufacturing a hard-metal pressed article includes providing a multi-part die, feeding at least one frontal mold part, feeding at least one transverse mold and locking the at least one frontal mold part and the at least one transverse mold part to define a cavity for the article. Feed directions of the at least one frontal mold part and the at least one transverse mold part are inclined. The at least one frontal mold part and the at least one transverse mold part define surfaces of the article. The resulting cavity includes at least one opening through which a punch is insertable. Next, a filling shoe is fed above an opening of the cavity and fills the cavity with a powder, and the powder is compressed with at least one punch. The feeding of the transverse mold part takes place along a feed direction that is parallel to the main pressing direction.

  • Publication number: 20190232593
Abstract: A method for the near-net-shape manufacture of hard-metal pressed articles comprises providing a multi-part die comprising a plurality of lateral mold parts defining lateral surfaces of a cavity for a pressed article. At least one of the plurality of lateral mold parts further defines a portion of an upper side of the cavity. The lateral mold parts are fed. At least two lateral punch parts are fed. At least two of the plurality of lateral mold parts are provided with a guide recess for one of the at least two lateral punch parts. A filling unit is fed above an opening of the cavity, and the cavity is filled with a hard-metal powder. At least one upper mold part is fed, which defines a portion of the upper side of the cavity. The lateral mold parts and the upper mold part are firmly held to form the cavity. The powder is compressed with at least two lateral punch parts. The lateral mold parts, the upper mold part and the punch parts are opened for demolding the pressed article.

  • Publication number: 20190015900
Abstract: A method for the manufacture of a hard-metal pressed article comprises providing a multi-part die, involving: feeding at least one frontal mold part that is movable in a first plane; feeding at least one transverse mold part that is movable in a second plane; and locking the at least one frontal mold part and the at least one transverse mold part to define a cavity for a pressed article. Feed directions of the at least one frontal mold part and the at least one transverse mold part are inclined to one another. The at least one frontal mold part and the at least one transverse mold part define surfaces of the pressed article. The resulting cavity comprises at least one opening through which a punch is insertable. The method further comprises feeding a filling shoe above an opening of the cavity and filling the cavity with a hard-metal powder; and compressing the powder with at least one punch that is movable parallel to a main pressing direction.

  • Patent number: 5415674
Abstract: An improved process for improving the adhesion between a cemented carbide substrate and a diamond layer deposited thereon by removing the binder phase of the cemented material from the surface of the substrate prior to diamond coating. For this purpose, the process of the invention uses an apparatus as is conventionally used in various technologies for the CVD process of diamond layers. The process parameters are here altered from those of the conventional diamond coating in such a way that binder metal is evaporated from a very narrow boundary zone of the substrate surface, utilizing the reaction heat from the recombination of previously dissociated hydrogen gas directly at the substrate surface.
