    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing effervescent granules, in which the reaction partners edible, organic acid components and alkaline effervescent components separating carbon dioxide are reacted with each other in a vacuum under the effect of gas in a container that can be evacuated. The container is evacuated to a first vacuum value within a vacuum range of 200-900 mbar, whereupon the pressure inside the container is increased to a second vacuum value as a result of the gases produced during the reaction. The steps are cyclically repeated while the reaction continues. A maximum number of cycles, a maximum reaction time, and optionally, a maximum load for the stirring apparatus are defined before the reaction begins, and the reaction is terminated after reaching the first of the maximums.

    Abstract: The effervescent base for the preparation of effervescent tablets and effervescent granules consists of at least one acidic and one gas-evolving component, the former of which is formed by a mixture of (predominantly) monosodium tartrate and (possibly) disodium tartrate, and optionally tartaric acid. The effervescent base is prepared by mixing tartaric acid with sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate containing water of crystallization and slowly reacting the mixture at a temperature increasing to about 50° C., after which further sodium carbonate containing water of crystallization is admixed and is allowed to react up to a temperature of about 60° C., and drying is then carried out, preferably in vacuo, the mixture is mixed with further, now anhydrous sodium carbonate and the product is optionally pressed to give tablets. The base may additionally comprise an acid sensitive or an alkali-sensitive pharmaceutically active substance.

    Abstract: The effervescent formulation elation in the form of granules or of a tablet contains, in addition to the effervescent base, at least one water-soluble or at least suspendable plant extract whose particles are coated with at least one oily, fatty or waxy substance. At least one emulsifier and/or at least one antifoam may be present in the coating and/or as a further component of the mixture, in particular applied as a further component of the mixture to a pharmaceutically permissible filler as carrier. The individual phases are prepared by a procedure in which the plant extract or the filler is heated—preferably in a granulator, in particular in a vacuum granulator—and wet or mixed with a melt or solution of the oily, fatty or waxy substance or at least one emulsifier and/or at least one antifoam and then dried—preferably in a vacuum—and sieved to the desired particle size.

    Abstract: The effervescent system for effervescent tablets and/or effervescent granules contains, on the one hand, particles of a solid, edible, organic acid and, on the other hand, particles of at least one alkali metal bicarbonate, of which at least 1, preferably from 2 to 4, but at most 10, preferably at most 8, % by weight are superficially converted into dry alkali metal carbonate free of water of crystallization. The acid particles, preferably citric acid particles, can be covered in a manner known per se by partial reaction with at least one carbonate and/or bicarbonate, preferably from about 20 to 40% by weight thereof. The conversion mentioned is carried out by a procedure in which commercial alkali metal bicarbonate particles are heated in a vacuum vessel at less than 40, preferably less than 20, in particular less than 10, mbar at above 60.degree. C., preferably between 80.degree. C. and 120.degree. C., in particular at about 100.degree. C., and are cooled to below 60.degree. C., preferably to below 50.

    Abstract: In accordance with this invention there is provided a granular product with an effervescent system which comprises acid-sensitive pharmaceutically active substances, such as, for example, betacarotene, cimetidine, ranitidine or cisapride, which is specially useful to prevent antacid action, having an acid-neutralizing capacity below about 5 meq, at a weight of about 1.6 to about 2.3 grams. The effervescent grains are made from carrier crystals of at least one solid, edible organic acid, preferably citric acid and/or tartaric acid, and are present as a granular product, separate from the pharmaceutically active substance, and are coated with at least one layer of a neutral substance which is soluble in water and/or alcohol and which is able to bring about a melting point depression of the acid grains at their surface, such as, for example, a water-soluble polymer, a polyalcohol, a carbohydrate and/or a hydrocolloid.

    Abstract: The effervescent mixture contains at least one acidic, insoluble or slightly soluble pharmaceutical active ingredient in the form of its soluble alkali metal salt or lysinate, which is present as an intimate mixture with the alkaline component and preferably coats the particles of the alkaline component of the effervescent system, for example sodium bicarbonate and/or sodium carbonate. Both components in very finely powdered form may also be present as granules, with the aid of a binder. In particular, the effervescent mixture contains, per 100 parts of active ingredient, at least 0.5 part, preferably 1 to 3 parts, of a surfactant, in particular dioctyl sulfosuccinate, and/or at least 1 part, preferably 3 to 5 parts, of a binder or suspending agent, in particular polyvinylpyrrolidone. The acidic component of the effervescent system is passivated on the surface.
