Patent number: 10462813Abstract: In one aspect of the disclosed teachings, associating a plurality of contention-based uplink grants with a range of uplink resource blocks allows one contention-based uplink grant message to signal the entire plurality of grants. As an example in the LTE context, the signaling load on the PDCCH is reduced by using a single contention-based uplink grant message to signal a plurality of contention-based uplink grants. The message indicates an allocated set of uplink resource blocks and the number of separate uplink resource grants represented by the set is known or signaled, such that user terminals recognize that separate subsets of uplink resource blocks within the set each correspond to a separate contention-based uplink grant. Information included in the contention-based uplink grant message, or otherwise signaled can be used to control the probability at which the user terminals attempt contention-based uplink transmissions and/or to control the MCS used for such transmissions.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2014Date of Patent: October 29, 2019Assignee: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET LM ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Stefan Henrik Andreas Wager, Henrik Enbuske, Anders Furuskär, Magnus Stattin, Michael Meyer, Anna Larmo

Patent number: 9462514Abstract: The present solution relates to a method in a user equipment for configuring a cell change procedure to be used for handover in a wireless communication network. The user equipment is situated in a serving cell and comprises an active set of cells. The active set of cells comprises a list of cells to which the user equipment can move from the serving cell. The user equipment sends a request to a network controller comprised in the wireless communication network to add at least one further cell to the active set. The user equipment then receives the requested active set update from the network controller. The received active set update comprises the at least one further cell to be added to the active set and a list of cells to which a modified cell change procedure shall be used for handover. A neighbor cell which is stronger than a current serving cell is detected.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2014Date of Patent: October 4, 2016Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Stefan Henrik Andreas Wager, Janne Peisa

Patent number: 9185722Abstract: The mobile station described herein comprises a transmission buffer, a receiver, a transmitter, and a controller. The controller triggers a scheduling request and buffer status report when data enters the transmission buffer. When the receiver receives a contention-based scheduling grant allocating contention-based uplink resources, the transmitter transmits one or more data packets retrieved from the transmission buffer along with the buffer status report on the contention-based resources to the network station. If one or more data packets remain in the transmission buffer after transmission of the buffer status report on the contention-based resources, the controller maintains the pending status of the buffer status report and the corresponding scheduling request.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2010Date of Patent: November 10, 2015Assignee: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Anna Larmo, Riikka Susitaival, Stefan Henrik Andreas Wager

Patent number: 8724579Abstract: A method in a wireless communication system for reporting buffer information includes selecting a format for a buffer report based on a number of radio bearer groups, k, for which data is available for transmission by a user equipment. The buffer report indicates a respective buffer fill level for one or more radio bearer groups associated with the user equipment. The method also include encoding a buffer fill level for one or more radio bearer groups in a buffer report in accordance with the selected format and transmitting the buffer report.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2012Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Per Johan Torsner, Mats Fredrik S{dot over (a)}gfors, Stefan Henrik Andreas Wager

Patent number: 6901065Abstract: A method of scheduling packets for transmission over the air interface of a UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN) in the case where a pair of Radio Network Controllers (RNCs) are acting as separate serving and controlling (drift) RNCs for a mobile terminal. The method comprises sending from the controlling RNC to the serving RNC, allocated scheduling priorities together with packet sizes accepted for transmission with those priorities by the controlling RNC. Subsequently the serving RNC send to the controlling RNC, packets of sizes accepted by the serving RNC together with respective allocated priorities.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2000Date of Patent: May 31, 2005Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Björn Ehrstedt, Jouko Hyväkkä, Charles Lignell, Reijo Matinmikko, Janne Peisa, Osmo Pulkkinen, Carl Göran Schultz, Raul Söderström, Stefan Henrik Andreas Wager, Toomas Wigell

Patent number: 6519223Abstract: A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for implementing a semi-reliable retransmission protocol that utilizes both selective repeat Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) and segmentation and assembly of data packets. The new semi-reliable retransmission protocol includes a timer based triggering of a retransmission timeout for retransmission protocols, which allows the retransmission timeout to become insensitive to variations in the channel rate. In addition, the retransmission timeout can be defined based upon the maximum delay allowable for the retransmission of corrupted data packets over the air interface. For every data packet received a timer monitoring the transmission time of the data packet is initialized. If the timer elapses for the data packet this data packet is marked as discarded in the transmitter, and a request is sent to the receiver to ensure that transmissions carrying that data packet are discarded in the receiver.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1999Date of Patent: February 11, 2003Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Stefan Henrik Andreas Wager, Reiner Ludwig
