Patent number: 9740365Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for visualization-centric performance-based volume allocation in a data storage system using a processor in communication with a memory device is provided. A unified resource graph representative of a global hierarchy of storage components in the data storage system, including each of a plurality of storage controllers, is generated. The unified resource graph includes a common root node and a plurality of subtree nodes corresponding to each of a plurality of nodes internal to the plurality of storage controllers. The common root node and the plurality of subtree nodes are ordered in a top-down orientation. Scalable volume provisioning of an existing or new workload amount by graphical manipulation of at least one of the storage components represented by the unified resource graph is performed based on an input.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2014Date of Patent: August 22, 2017Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Stefan Jaquet, Madhukar R. Patent number: 9514039Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and computer program product for determining a metric to use to determine whether to generate a low space alert. A determination is made of provisioned storage space comprising storage space allocated to at least one application, wherein applications may use less than all the provisioned storage space. A determination is made of available storage space comprising all installed storage space available for use by the at least one application having allocated storage space. A determination is made of allocated storage space comprising storage space used by the applications. A determination is made of an allocation metric as a function of the provisioned storage space, the allocated storage space, and the available storage space. The determined allocation metric is used to determine whether to generate a storage space related alert.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2013Date of Patent: December 6, 2016Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Stefan Jaquet

Patent number: 9256626Abstract: Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for maintaining multiple copy versions of component values in a system. A database includes entries for components in a system, wherein there is one entry for each of a plurality of component values associated with a component, wherein each entry indicates a range of copy versions for which the component value applies. A copy operation is performed at a current time to create a current copy version. A determination is made as to whether the component values for the components at the current time have changed since a previous copy version. The previous copy version is maintained in the database and immediately precedes the current copy version. For each component value that has changed, the entry for the component having the open indicator as the end copy version is updated to indicate the previous copy version as the end copy version.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2012Date of Patent: February 9, 2016Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Stefan Jaquet, Arvind C. Patent number: 8838779Abstract: A method, system, and article are provided for monitoring performance of hardware devices. Each hardware device is configured with an agent, and the server is configured with a coordinator. The agent collects device data at a first modifiable frequency and communicates the collected data to the coordinator at a second dynamically modifiable frequency. The collected data is periodically monitored and the first and second frequencies are modified subject to evaluation of the collected and monitored data.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2009Date of Patent: September 16, 2014Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Sandeep Gopisetty, Stefan Jaquet, Sandeep Madhav Uttamchandani

Patent number: 8306953Abstract: Embodiments for efficiently computing complex statistics from historical time series data are provided. A hierarchical summarization method includes receiving at least one stream of data and creating data blocks from the at least one stream of data. In another embodiment, a method for computing statistics for historical data includes accessing at least one online stream of historical data, the online stream of historical data including metadata, and creating data blocks from the at least one online stream of historical data. Each data block includes a pair of timestamps indicating a sampling start time and a sampling end time, a number of data samples spanned by the data block, a SUM(X) statistic, a SUM(XX) statistic, and a SUM(XY) statistic computed for the data samples spanned by the data block. Other methods are also presented, such as methods for efficiently and accurately calculating statistical queries regarding historical data for arbitrary time ranges, among others.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2010Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Sandip Agarwala, Sandeep Gopisetty, Stefan Jaquet
