  • Publication number: 20130030346
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for removing blood from an extracorporeal blood circuit and/or a functional device, each connectable or connected with a blood treatment apparatus for the purpose of blood treatment of a patient. The blood treatment apparatus of the method comprises or is connected with at least one extracorporeal blood circuit with a line having interior portions, the extracorporeal blood circuit comprising at least one arterial line section and at least one venous line section, wherein a first section of the arterial line section is configured to be connected with a second section of the venous line section, and further comprises at least one blood pump for conveying blood within the line interior portions. The method includes the step of operating the blood pump in a second conveying direction which is opposite to a first customary conveying direction. It further relates to corresponding apparatuses.

  • Publication number: 20120261341
Abstract: The invention relates to a device and a method for conveying a fluid to a filter unit of a medical treatment apparatus, in particular for conveying a dialysing fluid to a treatment unit, in particular a dialyser or filter of an extracorporeal blood treatment apparatus. The device comprises a balancing unit and a recirculation unit, which comprises one or more chambers. With the balancing unit, it is possible to supply fresh fluid continuously to the recirculation circuit and to discharge used fluid from the recirculation circuit. The supply and discharge of fresh and used dialysing fluid can take place at a flow rate other than the flow rate at which the fluid circulates in the recirculation circuit via the filter unit.

  • Publication number: 20120261316
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for conveying a fluid to a filter unit of a medical treatment apparatus, in particular for conveying a dialysing fluid to a filter unit, in particular a blood treatment unit of an extracorporeal blood treatment apparatus, in which device includes one or more means for measuring pressure in the fluid system. Moreover, the invention relates to a method for measuring the pressure in the fluid system of such a supply device.

  • Publication number: 20120223016
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for dialysis treatment which has device(s) for balancing fresh and used dialysis fluid. The present invention also relates to a method of balancing fresh and used dialysis fluid. The apparatus and method according to the present invention for balancing fresh and used dialysis fluid are characterized in that the individual balancing chambers of the balancing system receive both fresh dialysis fluid and used dialysis fluid, the functions of the balancing chambers being alternately interchanged. In this way, exact balancing can be achieved even when the volumes of the individual chambers differ from one another. Over the period of the treatment as a whole, the differences between the volumes balance each other out due to the cyclic interchange of the chambers.

  • Patent number: 6280375
Abstract: A centrifuge, especially a flow-through centrifuge free of rotating seals, for centrifuging biological fluids has a stand on which a frame (1) is rotatably mounted. A centrifuge chamber (3) is rotatably mounted on the rotating frame (1) to rotate about the axis of the latter. The centrifuge chamber (3) is driven in the same direction of rotation as the frame (1) but at twice the rotational speed. Coupling elements which are engaged by magnetic forces and are designed in the manner of a clutch disk or a gearwheel are used to transmit the torque to the centrifuge chamber or the rotating frame. Force is transmitted in a non-contact and wear-free manner. No lubrication is necessary, which also reduces the buildup of dust and dirt. In addition, there is little generation of noise.

  • Patent number: 5814279
Abstract: A centrifuge has a drive unit, a separation chamber which can be inserted into the drive unit, and a scanning device for recognizing the position of the separation chamber which is rotated by the drive unit. The separation chamber is constructed as a disposable chamber and is provided with a marker element which is arranged in a scanning region extending annularly around the rotation axis of the chamber. The position of a phase boundary window is detected by sensing the position of the marker with a phase boundary detector portion of the scanning device whereby the chamber can be inserted into the drive unit in any position.

  • Patent number: 5260598
Abstract: A separation device with a transparent separation chamber, whereby a direct light source illuminates the components to be separated and the individual components reflect the light intensity as a function of their individual coloring (brightness) via optics onto a linear group of photodetectors. The signals received by the detectors are forwarded to a computing unit in which they are processed. A regulating unit, which operates very precisely due to the accuracy and the high speed of the receiver and computing unit, is controlled according to a program and thus assures optimum separation performance of the separation device.
