    Abstract: A roll (1) for supporting and conveying hot material, including a roll element that has a roll jacket (2) made of a basic material and a wear coat which is applied to the basic material by means of a surface welding process (4) using a welding additive which surrounds the surface of the roll jacket. In order to increase the service life of the wear coat, improve the resistance to wear, and reduce the cost for producing the welded-on surface. The basic material of the roll jacket (2) is steel and contains up to 0.45 percent of C. The welded-on surface (4) is designed as a single-layer weld, and the wear coat contains 12.5 to 14.0 percent of Cr at least in an external zone that surrounds the surface of the roll jacket. Also disclosed are a method for producing the roll (1), a method for repairing a used roll (1), a welding additive and a welding rod for producing the welded-on surface.

    Abstract: An injector insert pipe is arranged in the gas channel of a nozzle for injecting oxygen-containing gas into a pig iron production unit, wherein an interspace which surrounds the pipe is present over the entire pipe length between the wall of the gas channel and the pipe outer wall. The pipe extends at least as far as the nozzle end face which contains the mouth of the gas channel. The pipe space is connected to an oxygen-containing gas feed line, and the interspace is connected to a protective gas supply line. In a process, oxygen-containing gas is fed into the pipe space, which after it has flowed through the pipe, enters the production unit at an entry velocity, and the interspace is simultaneously flowed through by a gas which exits into the production unit at an exit velocity, wherein the entry velocity is greater than the exit velocity.

    Abstract: A method electrochemically coats a substrate by brush plating. Particles are applied to the surface to be coated via a separated line system before the carrier for the electrolytes. The electrolyte is added to the carrier via a line system. The advantageous result thereof is that an agglomeration of the particles can be prevented because only a short time passes after the application of the particles until the formation of the layer. A device for electrochemical coating has two line systems for the cited purpose. The highly stressed surface components of rollers in rolling mills can be partially coated by the method.

    Abstract: An oxygen blowing lance for steel production, the lance having a protection element. The end of a main oxygen tube at the lance head has a cover shell with outlets. An oxygen outlet nozzle is removably and exchangeably fastened to each outlet. The protection element is provided removably and exchangeably at the lance head end of the oxygen blowing lance. An intermediate space is present between the lance head end of the oxygen blowing lance and the protection element. Penetrations are provided in the protection element, the oxygen outlet nozzles passing through the penetrations from the shell outward, and a gap remains between the oxygen outlet nozzle and the protection element. A protective gas line feeds into the intermediate space between the lance head end of the oxygen blowing lance and the protection element. A method for operating the oxygen blowing lance is also described.

    Abstract: In a method for determining the position of an object relative to the background with ultrasound, a plurality of ultrasound transducers arranged in a row simultaneously transmit ultrasound in line-shaped fashion in the direction of an object scene and receive both the echo of the signal transmitted by the transducer itself as well as the echoes of the signals generated by the neighboring ultrasound transducers. On the basis of a reference measurement wherein no object is located in the measurement region, the amplitudes and the times of incidence of the echo signals are stored. In the following measurements with an object, the echo amplitudes and the times of incidence of the echo signals are again stored and compared by fuzzy logic to those of the reference measurement. As a result, this supplies the position of the object relative to the background.
