    Abstract: A steering column for a motor vehicle comprises a casing unit, which serves to rotatably mount a steering spindle section adjoining a steering-wheel-side end, and at least one support piece which can be fastened at one side to a motor vehicle part fixed with respect to the body and which is or can be fixedly connected at the other side to the casing unit. At least one rupturing region is formed, along which, when a displacement force which exceeds a predefined release force acts in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the steering spindle section adjoining the steering-wheel-side end, the connection of the support piece to the casing unit or the support piece can be ruptured, wherein a displacement of the casing unit relative to the part fixed with respect to the body takes place.
