  • Publication number: 20130036995
Abstract: Embodiments for balancing an engine are provided. In one example, a method for balancing mass forces of a crank drive of an internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder comprises providing at least one balancing unit which has at least one balancing weight which serves as an unbalance and which rotates about a rotational axis when the balancing unit is operational, the at least one balancing unit being embodied as a switchable balancing unit, and switching on the at least one balancing unit as a function of at least one operating parameter of the internal combustion engine.

  • Publication number: 20130036996
Abstract: Embodiments for mass balancing an engine are provided. In one example, an internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder which is associated with a crank drive comprises at least one mechanically driven balancing unit for balancing the mass forces, the balancing unit including at least one balancing weight which serves as an unbalance by initially rotating a first mass about a rotational axis relative to a second mass when the balancing unit is operational, and an interrupter unit to disconnect the at least one balancing unit from the mechanical drive in a switched off state and connect it to the mechanical drive in a switched on state.

  • Publication number: 20120285401
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided. The internal combustion engine includes an oil circuit and a pump in fluidic communication with a supply line and at least one lubricant receiving component and a liquid cooling system including a coolant circuit having an oil pressure actuated coolant valve and a coolant valve control line in fluidic communication with the pump and having a first configuration in which coolant may flow therethrough and a second configuration in which coolant is inhibited from flowing therethrough, the first and second configurations triggered in response to a change in oil pressure in the coolant valve control line.

  • Publication number: 20120199094
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a multi-cylinder in-line internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle, comprising a crankshaft which rotates about a crankshaft axis during operation of the internal combustion engine, a plurality of crank throws which succeed one another in an axial direction, each of which crank throws is associated with a respective cylinder in the internal combustion engine, and a compensating arrangement for at least partially compensating the inertial forces generated on the crankshaft by revolving masses. The multi-cylinder in-line internal combustion engine has a device for varying the position of at least one of the compensating masses relative to the crankshaft as a function of engine speed. The present disclosure further relates to a method for operating such a multi-cylinder in-line internal combustion engine.

  • Publication number: 20120175978
Abstract: The disclosure relates to an air-cooled electromechanical system having a rotor, a driver element, and a fan impeller, the rotor comprising a rotor shaft and field winding. Said disclosure proposes that the fan impeller is rotatably mounted on the rotor shaft and can be connected to and/or disconnected from the rotor and/or the rotor shaft by an automatic clutch.

  • Publication number: 20110303295
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a control valve for a medium circuit of an internal combustion engine, in particular to a thermostat of a coolant circuit of the internal combustion engine. The control valve includes a valve housing, an expansible material element arranged in a valve body, an energy accumulator having an abutment element, a valve seat, and at least one locking element arranged on the abutment element, each locking element having a counter-latching face. The control valve has a first position wherein the counter-latching face of each locking element is in a non-positive connection with a corresponding latching face of the valve housing in order to force the control valve into a mechanically blocked, forced-open position, the latching face being formed by means of an opening edge in the valve housing. This position may enable a quick and reliable initial filling or refilling of the coolant circuit.
