  • Patent number: 7637361
Abstract: A one-piece sheet metal combination retainer and anchor for use in a non-servo floating shoe drum brake assembly (10) having a pair of laterally extending ears (62, 64,94, 96) for axially retaining respective ends (22, 24) of a pair of brake shoes (12, 14), and a pair of rivet head reinforceable axially extending portions (58, 60, 82, 84) for anchoring the brake shoe ends during brake application. A base portion (50, 88) has one or more rivet (54, 56, 86, 90) or shaft (92) receiving apertures with the each of the axially extending portions abutted by a rivet head flat surface (70). The base portion has a transversely extending central region (76, 98) to provide, in conjunction with a brake assembly backing plate (52), a parking brake cable (80) retaining clamp.

  • Patent number: 5957245
Abstract: In order to realize a two-piston floating caliper disc brake with a wide caliper, the axially outer side of the caliper is supported by radially extending protrusions shaped on the outer brake shoe. While the two protrusions have the same depth, they differ in their width. Corresponding circular grooves within the caliper around recess openings on the opposite side of the brake cylinders, however, are identical. Therefore, a radial support of the brake caliper can be carried out by both protrusions while a tangential positioning of the caliper is limited to the wider one of the two protrusions.

  • Patent number: 5884732
Abstract: A composite brake adapter for a caliper disc brake assembly is made up of a first pre-stamped part of a sheet of metal adapted to match an axle housing of the assembly, and of a second part cast onto an upper surface of the first part to adhere thereto, additional structural elements providing matching of the second part with a caliper of the assembly being made an integral part of the second part. A method of making a composite brake adapter for a caliper disc brake assembly comprises the steps of providing a first part of the adapter, the first part being provided with mounting holes to match an axle housing of the assembly and being made of a sheet of metal; placing the first part into a mold, and casting a second part of the adapter into the mold onto a surface of the first part. To incorporate additional structural elements of the adapter with a caliper of the assembly, the additional structural elements are placed into a precision fixture and secured within the mold prior to casting the second part.
