  • Publication number: 20230407023
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an anion exchange membrane comprises the following steps: grafting side chains onto a TPE; purifying the grafted TPE; casting the purified grafted TPE; and functionalising the grafted TPE to obtain a cationic moiety. The anion exchange membrane may be used in electrochemical devices including electrolysers, fuel cells or compressors, and is particularly suited to anion exchange membrane electrolysers operating with a dry-cathode.

  • Publication number: 20230192976
Abstract: This invention relates to an an-ion exchange membrane and method for making said membrane. The membrane being intended for use in electrolysers or other AEM electrochemical devices. The membrane comprises: a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) comprising styrene, said TPE being a polymeric backbone, wherein: the styrene content of the thermoplastic elastomer is between 30 wt % and 70 wt %, and crosslinking of a first polymeric backbone to one or more other polymeric backbones, and one or more cationic groups, and the functionalisation degree is between 1% and 50%.

  • Publication number: 20220341046
Abstract: This invention relates to a device for the electrolytic production of hydrogen and oxygen from a water-containing liquid, the device comprising: an anodic half-cell (3) and a cathodic half-cell (4), with an anion exchange membrane (9) situated between the two half-cells. The electrodes (7, 8) of the half-cells (3, 4) and the anion exchange membrane (9) form a membrane/electrode assembly (MEA). There is also provided means (2) for feeding the water-containing liquid to only one of the anodic half-cell (3) and the cathodic half-cell (4), wherein the electrode in the other, substantially dry, half-cell is ionomer-free and/or binder-free.
