    Abstract: A mandrel holder head with release/fastening device of the mandrel for rolling metallic tubes comprises a mandrel holder (1) which accommodates within an internal seat a half collar (2) of externally cylindrical shape through an opening in the side wall. In the internal seat are accommodated both an end part (52) of the mandrel shank and the half collar (2) through the opening. The half collar has an internal cavity with a second longitudinal side opening which accommodates a second part (51) of the shank of diameter smaller than that of the first part (52). The half collar is divided along an axial direction into two cylindrical parts (21, 22) which have different diameters. The locking member (30, 31) of the half collar (2) holds it in the mandrel holder (1) seat in working conditions, while allowing shank release with an axial movement in locked conditions.

    Abstract: In a method for quenching, particularly for steel tubes or similar, the tube (T) is quenched by a vortical flow of cooling liquid at least along the outer shell surface, with at least a circulatory motion inside the tube. The vortical flow of cooling liquid has a component of circulatory motion in the circumferential direction around the outer shell surface of the tube and a component of motion in the axial direction with respect to the tube. A device for the application of the method has a container (1) for the tube (T), with at least one source (18, 217) of supply of an external cooling liquid flow, and with an outlet (101) for the discharge of the flow from the container (1). The source (18, 217) of supply of the external cooling liquid flow is such that it generates the flow in a circumferential direction with respect to the tube (T).

The annular riders are made in tubular form and may be of toroidal form and are connected separately each to the supply duct and to the return duct for the cooling fluid.     Abstract: This invention relates to a method of and a walking beam furnace for the intermediate heating of pipes, or the like, in hot rolling mills, by means of a furnace located between the plug-mill and the sizing mill. According to the invention, in a forehearth (17) of the intermediate heating furnace, at the inlet side thereof, there is maintained a temperature which is lower than that at the outlet side, and which, anyway, is such that the hottest pipes will be cooled down and the coldest pipes will be heated up whereby, when exiting from said forehearth (17) of the furnace, the difference between the temperatures of the various pipes is zero or, at least, is small and, in any case, is smaller than that at the inlet, whereas in the successive chamber (18) of the furnace there is maintained such a temperature as to give the pipes the desired temperature when exiting from the furnace.
