Patent number: 12113412Abstract: An electric motor with multiple electric gears to achieve an effect equivalent to mechanical gears in transmissions, enabling more efficient use of electricity at a wider range of speeds and torques is described. The Gears for Electric Motor (GEM) comprises a multi-phase motor having a concentric set of dedicated rotors to specific ranges of revolutions per minute (RPMs), and corresponding stators. The rotors and stators may be fitted within each other or positioned approximately parallel to each other along the longitudinal axis of the motor shaft. A controller determines which rotors are activated based on desired efficiency, torque and speed. Alternately, or in addition, magnets and coil pairs are constructed with varying properties to make more efficient use of electricity at a wider range of speeds and torques.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2021Date of Patent: October 8, 2024Assignee: The Regents of the University of CaliforniaInventors: Stefano Foresti, Christopher Chalabi, Johnathan Deas, Sonia Desaidamle, Samuel Gottesfeld, Blair Macleod, Christopher Reps, Michiro Robinson

Patent number: 10719541Abstract: A method and system to improve the computer in light of the global information network with numerous computer devices services, and apps, so that a user can capture and find information with high security and usability. The method improves capturing information and the user intentions, while minimizing the work that needs to be done by the user to obtain a benefit from the computer system. The invention includes the following methods for the computer: to simplify account creation for new users; to identify them progressively by requesting just the information necessary to provide a service; to authenticate an identity without a priori preparation of security questions and by requesting a user an effort proportional to the value of the service; and to capture the user intentions of permission of information by progressively and interactively asking who can and must not find it.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2014Date of Patent: July 21, 2020Inventor: Stefano Foresti

Patent number: 8949268Abstract: A method and system to improve personal and collaborative information management and search. The method is to actively or passively capture pieces of information and the connections among them across disparate technologies and the human mind, while people keep working with familiar tools, and to snapshot such information objects to be globally addressed, persistent in time, and hyperlinked based on the connections. The system can be injected in existing digital information technology (servers and the cloud or personal and mobile computing devices) to capture, connect, share, synchronize, search and serve the information objects and their connections. This is particularly effective in finding information that is buried and disorganized across devices, applications, internet accounts, and people, or information and connections in the users' mind and actions that otherwise do not get captured in digital form.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2014Date of Patent: February 3, 2015Inventor: Stefano Foresti

Publication number: 20090267946Abstract: A visualization system for heterogeneous data sets comprises: a unique visualization interface created by a visualization engine. The visualization interface comprises a window or canvas having a first area defining a center of attention, second area defining a parameter space and a plurality of correlation elements. The first area is a two-dimensional space for the display of items of interest. The second area provides a space in which parameters associated with the items of interest can be displayed. The correlation elements indicate relationships and their strength between items of interest and parameters in the second area. The visualization engine creates the unique visualization interface and is coupled to a data source, such as a database. The visualization engine preferably comprises an input module, a control module, a retrieving module, a rendering module, and an analysis module.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2009Publication date: October 29, 2009Inventors: James Agutter, Stefano Foresti, Shaun Moon, Julio Bermudez, Yarden Livnat, Thomas Morahan

Patent number: 7603631Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for the monitoring, diagnosis and evaluation of the state of a dynamic system is disclosed. This method and system provides the processing means for receiving sensed and/or simulated data, converting such data into a displayable object format and displaying such objects in a manner such that the interrelationships between the respective variables can be correlated and identified by a user. This invention provides for the rapid cognitive grasp of the overall state of a critical function with respect to a dynamic system. The system provides for displayed objects which change in real-time to show the changes of the functions of the system. It is a highly flexible system which works with a wide variety of applications, including biological systems, environmental systems, engineering systems, economic systems, mechanical systems, chemical systems and the like.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2004Date of Patent: October 13, 2009Assignee: University of Utah Research FoundationInventors: Julio C. Bermudez, Stefano Foresti, Dwayne R. Westenskow, James Agutter, Debra Gondeck-Becker
