    Abstract: In a suture ring for heart valve prostheses, the internal surface of the ring which is intended to be exposed to the blood flow is covered by a substantially water-repellent material so that it absorbs substantially no blood and has little haemolytic effect. The outer surface of the ring which is intended to be exposed to the tissue to which the prosthesis is sutured is covered by a substantially hydrophilic, porous material so as to encourage the colonization of the ring by the tissue.
