Abstract: A method and system for automatically running a backup process upon detection of the shutdown, user logoff or reboot of a computer system are provided. Common operating systems are sending a notification message to all active applications when the computer session is finished. After receiving this message from the operating system a backup application starts to execute predefined backup tasks. Thus, the running of the predefined backup tasks is performed without any action being required on the part of a user.

Abstract: A method and system for storing compressed files are provided. Various file compressing formats like older versions of the PKZIP-Format have limitations for the amount of compressed files or the total file size of the created archive that contains these files. On the other hand some storage media do not support single files larger than a specific size. To support the compression of many files and keep the limits of the compression or medium format this invention provides a method to store compressed files which number or resulting compressed size would exceed given limits.

Abstract: This method for data backup provides a way for computer users to easily backup important and personal data. It offers backup task templates for data that should be scheduled for backups and detects the need to update an according backup archive. The method includes a) offering backup task templates that contain title and information about data to backup b) create a permanent backup task file with these information c) detect the need to update the backup archive when data have been changed or modified.
