The display system further comprises a backlighting module having luminous units, wherein the backlighting module is arranged directly or indirectly at a rear side of the display, such that the light emitted by the luminous units forms a backlight for the display. The backlighting module comprises a backlighting edge corresponding to the display edge and comprises a backlighting inner surface corresponding to the display inner surface. The display system further comprises and a control system for driving the luminous units. A vehicle comprising a display system and a method for operating a display system is also provided.
