Abstract: In a cellular mobile system having both analog and digital traffic channels and including a land system serving a plurality of cells and a plurality of mobile stations capable of using analog and digital traffic channels, a method of reducing disturbance of communications within the system comprising the steps of:in the land system:sending a directed retry order to a dual mode mobile station identifying at least one target cell;in the mobile station:accessing one of said at least one target cells identified in the received directed retry order; andin the accessed target cell:assigning to the accessing mobile station an analog traffic channel in preference over a digital traffic channel.

Abstract: Apparatuses and mobile stations are described which provide packet data services in TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) cellular systems, based on providing shared packet data channels optimized for packet data. A first "integrated" embodiment utilizes the current cellular infrastructure to the extent possible consistent with functional and performance requirements. Shared packet data channels in base stations may be provided dynamically determined by demand. A packet data controller in each Mobile services Switching Center controls access to the packet data services. A packet data router in each MSC routes packets to and from the MSC service area. A backbone network interconnects packet data routers and Interworking Functions providing internetworking with external network(s).

Abstract: A method for random access in a time divided mobile radio system, for instance an FDMA/TDMA system, which includes digital traffic channels and control channels which are organized so that four traffic channels and two control channels are included in a TDMA-frame. A base station transmits continually flags in the time slots of the control channels. A mobile station desiring access to the system responds by sending a first message word (W1) in the time slot indicated by the base station in a first flag. When the mobile station wishes to transmit several message words, the base station reserves one or more time slots to this end by transmitting the first flag, although this flag now states that these time slots are busy for other mobile stations. Furthermore, the base station transmits a flag (R/N) which states whether or not a message word has been received from the mobile station.
