  • Patent number: 6364800
Abstract: Inverted tooth chains particularly those used in timing drive applications. Conventional guide links are replaced by conventional sprocket engaging links for the two outermost links in the outer link rows. A thick inner link of approximately twice normal thickness is placed in the inner link row and two normal thickness regular links are placed in the outer link row. Pins are fit securely in the holes of the links in the outer link rows.

  • Patent number: 5453059
Abstract: A silent or inverted tooth chain assembly includes links of different or unequal pitch lengths. Some sets of links have links of a first pitch length, while other sets of links have links of a second, or different pitch length. The pitch length of the links may be altered by varying the distance between the centers of the apertures of two links or the location of the apertures within the link. The links with differing pitch length may be randomly arranged in a prescribed pattern through the length of the chain. In addition to variation of pitch length, further randomization is achieved by including links of two different configurations.

  • Patent number: 5435789
Abstract: A silent chain assembly of links having a single depending toe beneath one of the apertures of the link. The links are oriented into patterns to modify the patterns of contacts of the links with the sprocket teeth.

  • Patent number: 5154674
Abstract: A power transmission chain is formed of a plurality of randomly oriented s of links. Pivot means connect adjacent sets of links by fitting into a pair of apertures in the links. Each of the links of the chain has a pair of toes separated by a crotch. Each of the toes is defined by an outside flank and an inside flank. The links of the chain are asymmetrical in configuration with some links being oriented in a first direction and other links being oriented in the opposite direction. The asymmetrical form includes a first toe having an inside flank of a first configuration and a second toe having an inside flank of a different configuration. The first configuration includes either a substantially straight surface or a surface of a different configuration.

  • Patent number: 4915675
Abstract: A power transmission chain having a plurality of pin connected articulating and guide ranks wherein each rank may include plain links having a thickness that may vary from rank to rank. A group of plain links having a preselected thickness is disposed in articulating ranks throughout the chain. Other groups of plain links having a different preselected thickness are disposed in nonarticulating ranks of the chain. The combination of different thickness plain links disposed in a preselected manner coupled with elastic guide links throughout the chain is effective to minimize wear. The groups of plain links having preselected but different thicknesses cooperate with different thickness guide links therein so as to improve load distribution thereacross, achieve equal deformation between the plain links and the guide links and maintain the transverse connecting pins substantially parallel to each other. The plain links in this chain which are of the two toe variety are characterized by having nonidentical toes.

  • Patent number: 4463550
Abstract: A link set capable of connection in series to form an endless silent chain has a pair of guide links held apart by, and non-rotatively fastened to the ends of a pair of pins. A central link pack devoid of bushings to maximize the amount of material available to resist the stresses encountered under load is connected between and directly engages the pins. A pair of articulating link packs are rotatively connected to one of the pins on either side of the central link pack. Bushings are provided in the articulating packs to improve the wear life of the chain.

  • Patent number: 4349343
Abstract: A drive chain for a variable speed transmission has two groups of links pivotally connected together by pivot pins lying on a pitch line. Drive pins are loosely received in each group of links, on a drive line spaced from the pitch line, for engagement with pulleys of a variable speed transmission.

  • Patent number: 4186617
Abstract: A hybrid type chain having a low wear pivot joint between inner and outer links has been provided. Both the inner and outer links of the chain are pin links with the pins tightly received, respectively, in the sidebars of the links. Each pin of an inner link is engaged with the adjacent pin of the adjacent outer link in linking engagement to form a pivot joint. All pins have convex, arcuate faces for rocking engagement between the pins at the pivot joint between links.

  • Patent number: 3981205
Abstract: A self-centering variable diameter drive pulley, driven from an engine, receives a first drive belt which is also received on a self-centering variable diameter driven pulley. One or more engine accessories are driven through the variable diameter driven pulley at a relatively constant speed through a wide range of engine speeds by virtue of the variable diameter pulleys, one of which changes diameter in accordance with the speed at which it rotates. Another accessory, or accessories, are driven by pulleys which receive a second drive belt. The second drive belt is received over the first drive belt at the variable diameter drive pulley to transmit power from the drive pulley to said other accessories.
