Publication number: 20090007931Abstract: A method and a system to be used in the process of manufacturing plates, such as fibreboards, particleboards and the like boards, where the raw material in the form of biomass particles, such as wood fibres or wood particles of various size and shape are dried from its natural moisture content to a moisture content suitable to be applied with a thermosetting binder and be spread onto a movable forming belt to form a mat, and where said mat by means of a hot press is compressed into the desired thickness of the finished plate and the thermosetting binder is hardened. According to the invention, the drying process of the biomass particles is facilitated by the use of ultrasound to remove the sub-layer of air at the surface of the particles and thus to intensify the transport of heat energy into the particles and the transport of moisture from the particles.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2005Publication date: January 8, 2009Applicants: FORCE TECHNOLOGY, WESSER OG DUEHOLM ARKITEKT-OG INGENIORFIRMA V/STEN DUEHOLMInventors: Niels Krebs, Sten Dueholm

Patent number: 6885198Abstract: A testing device tests a mat that is moved in one direction and that is made of biomass particles for manufacturing boards. On one side of the mat, radiation sources are positioned with a transversely spaced-apart relationship transverse to the direction of motion. On the other side of the mat, a line of detector elements is arranged beneath each of the radiation sources. A fan-shaped beam impinges on said detector elements. The beam passes either through one standard body, through the mat, or through neither the standard body nor the mat and is received by the detector elements and converted into electric output signals. The output signals are transferred via lines to an evaluating circuit that controls a device for removing mat portions that contain unwanted matter or the weight per unit area of which is too low.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2002Date of Patent: April 26, 2005Assignee: Dieffenbacher GmbH + Co. Publication number: 20030137288Abstract: A device (12) serves as a means for testing a mat (11) moved in one direction (7) and made of biomass particles for manufacturing boards, more specifically in a double band press. On one side of the mat (11), radiation sources (33, 35) are positioned with a transversely spaced-apart relationship (30) transverse to the direction of motion (7). On the other side of the mat (11), a line (34, 36) of detector elements (44, 44′, 51) is arranged beneath each of the radiation sources (33, 35), a fan-shaped beam (37) impinging on said detector elements. The beam passes either only through one standard body (43) or only through the mat (11) or through neither the standard body nor the mat and is received by the detector elements and converted into electrical output signals.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 10, 2002Publication date: July 24, 2003Applicant: Maschinenfabrik J. Patent number: 6533889Abstract: A method of manufacturing plates, such as chipboards, fibre boards and the like boards, where the raw material in form of biomass particles, such as wood chips, wood fibres and the like applied with a thermosetting binder is spread onto a preforming band into an endless mat, and where this mat (B) is pre-compressed in a continuously operating prepress (C ) and then completely pressed in a continuously operating hot press, whereby the mat (B) is compressed into the desired thickness of the finished plate and the thermosetting binder is hardened. According to the invention, the mat (B) is pretreated by means of steam immediately before the introduction into the hot press (E) by means of a device (F) so as to obtain predetermined gradients of moisture content and temperature across the thickness of the mat. As a result the capacity of the apparatus can be increased at the same time as the energy consumption can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1999Date of Patent: March 18, 2003Assignee: Wesser & DueholmInventor: Sten Dueholm

Patent number: 5970116Abstract: A method of non-destructively, on-line determining the density profile in a plate-shaped material with a density which varies discretely or continuously over the plate thickness, while the density at a specific depth of the plate is assumed to be constant, such as for instance plates based on wood, by means of X-rays or gamma rays from a source placed on one side of the plate. Two detectors are placed on the other side of the plate, one detector measuring in the emitting direction of the source and the other detector measuring in the other direction and being movable relative to the plate. The counting number of the second detector is adjusted by means of the counting number of the first detector. By a suitable choice of emitting direction and detecting direction it is possible to provide a measurement of the density in a specific measuring volume merely by dividing the counting number of the second detector by the counting number of the first detector.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1996Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignee: Wesser & DueholmInventors: Sten Dueholm, Steen Teller
