  • Patent number: 6236198
Abstract: A method and a device for non-contacting measurement of the measures and position of objects of electrically conductive materials based on electromagnetic induction is provided. A measuring object, a transmitter coil and a receiver coil are placed in relation to each other such that a time-varying magnetic field generated by the transmitter coil at a measuring region of the measuring object is substantially parallel to the surface of the measuring region. The receiver coil is placed such that a conceived field line which touches the measuring region in its extension reaches the receiver coil. On the basis of the voltage induced in the receiver coil, the position and dimensions of the measuring region relative to a given reference point can be calculated.

  • Patent number: 6188217
Abstract: A device for non-contacting measurement of a measuring object is provided. The device includes at least one pair of associated coils, including a transmitter coil and a receiver coil. The transmitter coil generates a time varying magnetic field. In the receiver coil, a voltage is induced. The voltage is dependent on the location of the transmitter coil, the receiver coil and a measuring region of a measuring object. The device comprises a U-shaped structure with two branches. A retaining part is arranged between these branches. The transmitter and receiver coils are fixed to the branches of the U-shaped structure and the measuring object is intended to be arranged centrally in the opening of the U-shaped structure.

  • Patent number: 5977766
Abstract: A method and a device for inductive measurement of physical parameters of an object of metallic material by generating a time-varying magnetic field from a primary coil in a measurement range. The magnetic field induces eddy currents in the object which influence the time-varying magnetic field. The field is detected by a measuring coil from which a signal is obtained which carries information about the desired parameters. A field-measuring coil is introduced outside the measurement range, but surrounded by an electric circuit generated at the measurement range. The field-measuring coil senses a current induced in the electric circuit by the time-varying magnetic field. The interfering magnetic field generated by the current, and which influences the time-varying magnetic field, adds an error to the measurement of the measuring coil.

  • Patent number: 5270646
Abstract: Edge position determination of metallic materials by means of evaluation of the voltages which are induced in coils located at the edges of the material below the material and partially covered by the material as well as coils located inside of the first-mentioned coils in the transverse direction of the material, which latter coils are completely covered by the material in connection with a decaying magnetic field which is generated by the same coils.

  • Patent number: 5059902
Abstract: A method for contactless measuring the values of magnitudes which relate to an electrically conductive material in solid or liquid form, for instance such magnitudes as the distance of the conductive material from a given point, linear dimension(s) of a body that incorporates such material, the electrical conductivity value of the material, and the temperature of the material. In accordance with the method, an electromagnetic field, generated with the aid of a constant current which flows through at least one field generating coil, is caused to penetrate at least partially into the material. The supply of current to the at least one coil is discontinued subsequent to the magnetic field having penetrated the electrically conductive material to an extent sufficient for the intended magnitude to be measured.

  • Patent number: 4212342
Abstract: A method of, and apparatus for, regulating the bath level of a continuous casting mold by means of electromagnetic alternating fields which contemplates measuring changes in the inductance as a function of the bath level and employing such measured changes as an input signal for bath level regulation. According to specific aspects of the invention an electromagnetic primary alternating field is directed at one mold wall from the side of the continuous casting mold where the molten metal is poured-in. This alternating field induces a current in the mold wall and a secondary electromagnetic alternating field produced by such current is measured and employed as an input signal for regulation of the bath level in the continuous casting mold.
