  • Patent number: 6663112
Abstract: A sealing device for sealing a joint which is constituted by two sealing surfaces facing each other. The sealing surfaces are displaceable in parallel in relation to each other. The sealing device comprises a sealing element consisting of elastomeric materials of at least two different hardnesses. The sealing element is compressed in the joint while contacting the sealing surfaces. The sealing element forms two portions of elastomeric material having low hardness, said portions contacting the sealing surfaces. The elastomeric material having high hardness is positioned between the portions having low hardness and contacting the sealing surfaces. The elastomeric material having low hardness and contacting the sealing surfaces. The elastomeric material having high hardness is adapted at parallel displacement of the sealing surfaces from the position for forming the joint to increase its size in a direction transversely in relation to the sealing surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6193238
Abstract: A sealing device comprises two substantially conical or cylindrical sealing surfaces (6, 8) which are axially introducable one into the other to a substantially concentric sealing position in which the sealing surfaces define between themselves an annular sealing space (12) and further comprising a sealing element (10) consisting of elastic material, the sealing element being compressed in the sealing space between the sealing surfaces and being at least in axial direction bound to a first sealing surface of said sealing surfaces. The second sealing surface (8) is formed with at least one projection (16) and the sealing element forms in cooperation with said first sealing surface at least one pair of portions (20, 22) positioned adjacent each other in the axial direction and presenting different compression resistances under the influence of the projection of the second sealing surface.

  • Patent number: 4410185
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of sealing the space between two substantially coaxial sealing surfaces (24 and 30) which are insertable one in the other, preferably for sealing the space between a socket and a spigot end of a pipe joint. Before the sealing surfaces are inserted one into the other a sealing ring (2) is positioned in connection with one of the sealing surfaces, the sealing ring being thereby enclosed in or being thereby enclosed into a covering (12), which contains a lubricant (18). The insertion of the sealing surfaces one in the other is facilitated either by the fact that the covering (12) is broken so that the lubricant is made accessible at surfaces of the joint sliding against each other and/or by the fact that a portion of the covering slides between the sealing ring and the sealing surface or the sealing surfaces.
