  • Publication number: 20090136899
Abstract: An implant comprising two internal anti-rotational features. One anti-rotational feature is adapted to engage a driving tools while the other anti-rotational feature is adapted to engage an abutment. An implant abutment system is provided with an angled abutment adapted to mate with one of the anti-rotational features. A second, straight abutment is adapted to engage with the other anti-rotational feature. An abutment is provided with resilient fingers to interface with the implant and provide tactile and audible feedback indicating when the abutment is properly seated. An abutment screw extends through the abutment and engages the implant bore distal of the stem of the abutment. The abutment screw limits axial movement of the abutment relative to the implant. A driving tool comprising one of at least retention structure and visual alignment indicia is provided to facilitate screwing the implant into a patient's bone.

  • Patent number: 6887077
Abstract: The present invention relates to a new dental implant that includes a generally cylindrical section and a tapered section. The implant has a thread making a plurality of turns around the exterior surface. The implant is installed into a bore that includes a generally cylindrical portion and a tapered portion. The dimensions of the cylindrical section and the tapered section of the implant are at least the dimensions of the generally cylindrical portion and the tapered portion of the bore, respectively. The bore is preferably shaped by a shaping drill that has a profile that generally mimics the profile of the implant. The female threads are preferably developed through a compression tap or a series of compression taps that cause the bone tissue defining the female threads to have increased density.

  • Publication number: 20040209227
Abstract: An implant comprising an internal bore having an opening at one end of the implant is initially fixed within a patient's mouth. A support post on which a final artificial prosthesis will be mounted is attached to the implant by allowing a portion of the post to extend into and attach within the bore of the implant. The post generally extends supragingivally from a base at or beneath the gum surface and contains a retention bulb to assist in registering the axial orientation of an impression cap and the final prosthesis. The impression cap is then placed over the post to assist in taking an impression of the relevant dental region. The impression cap contains means to allow the retention bulb to snap onto the impression cap. After the impression material is placed to surround the impression cap, post and implant, the impression material and impression cap are removed. A healing cap is placed on the post and acts as a temporary tooth able to last within the patient's mouth for several months.

  • Patent number: 6343930
Abstract: A support post for use with a dental implant comprising a ceramic portion, a screw, and a metal portion. The ceramic portion is adapted to support a prosthesis thereon. The ceramic portion has a supragingival region for protruding beyond the gingiva and a subgingival end for extending into the gingiva. The ceramic portion has a passageway extending therethrough. According to one embodiment, the passageway narrows to form a shoulder that is made entirely of ceramic. The screw is adapted to engage an internally threaded bore in the implant and be insertable through the passageway. The screw comprises a head and a threaded section. The head of the screw seats entirely on the shoulder. The metal portion comprises a lower section and an upper section extending into the passageway. The metal portion abuts the subgingival end of the ceramic portion. The lower section is adapted to receive and engage the corresponding boss of the dental implant. The metal portion has an opening to provide access to the screw.

  • Patent number: 6159010
Abstract: A dental coping is set forth for placement over an abutment post that is attached to and protruding above a dental implant. The abutment post includes an outer surface with at least one structure for non-rotationally engaging a prosthetic tooth. The coping includes a base portion having an internally tapered surface for mating with a support surface of the implant. A wall extends away from the base portion for enveloping the abutment post. The wall includes at least one aperture for being aligned with and providing access to at least one of the non-rotational attachment engagement structures of the abutment post. The apertures are especially useful in the process of making the prosthetic tooth by allowing wax material to pass therethrough and engage the non-rotational features of an analog device replicating the abutment post such that a castable material will form antirotational features for mating with the antirotational features of the abutment post.
