Publication number: 20230415809Abstract: A method is disclosure for operating a steer-by-wire vehicle steering system with a steering wheel in a shut-down state of the vehicle. According to one step of the method, after the vehicle has been shut down a procedure is carried out to monitor whether the steering wheel of the vehicle is being moved. If a movement of the steering wheel is ascertained and the movement exceeds a defined first limiting value, the movement of the steering wheel is damped by a damping unit of the steering system. If no movement of the steering wheel exceeding the first limiting value was ascertained for a defined time period, no further monitoring of a movement of the steering wheel and no further damping of the movement of the steering wheel are undertaken, so long as the vehicle is shut down.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2023Publication date: December 28, 2023Inventors: Stephan Walentowski, Stefan Jäkel, Thomas Zimmermann

Publication number: 20230382450Abstract: A steer-by-wire steering system for a vehicle is disclosed. The steering system has a steering wheel, a first sensor for capturing a steering angle of the steering wheel, a processing logic unit for determining a wheel setting angle requirement on the basis of the captured steering angle, and an actuator unit for setting a wheel setting angle at wheels of the vehicle according to the wheel setting angle requirement determined by the processing logic unit. The sensor is electrically connected to the actuator unit and is supplied with electrical energy via the actuator unit. There is at least one further sensor for capturing a steering angle of the steering wheel, which further sensor is used as a fallback solution if the first sensor fails, wherein the processing logic unit is configured to process primarily a signal from the first sensor and to process the signal from the further sensor only if the first sensor fails.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 26, 2023Publication date: November 30, 2023Inventor: Stephan Walentowski

Patent number: 11485403Abstract: A rotation limiting means for a steer-by-wire steering system comprises a fixedly arranged outer housing and a steering column which is received at least partially in the outer housing and can be rotated relative to the outer housing. Furthermore, at least one actuating member is provided which is arranged between the outer housing and the steering column and can be rotated to a limited extent relative to the outer housing and relative to the steering column, in order to mechanically limit a rotation of the steering column relative to the outer housing. Furthermore, a steering system and a method for limiting a rotational movement in a steering system are described.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2020Date of Patent: November 1, 2022Assignee: ZF Automotive Germany GmbHInventor: Stephan Walentowski
