  • Patent number: 6638380
Abstract: A method for making a low carbon and low manganese cold rolled steel strip for deep-drawing whereby a steel strip hot rolled in the austenistic region coiled at the end of the high temperature hot rolling process (680° C.<T<750° C.) is subjected to a cold rolling process with a reduction rate between 65 and 80 %, and finally subjected to an annealing and overageing heat treatment. The method consists in heating the steel strip at a heating rate Vh ranging between 150° C./s and 1000° C. up to the annealing temperature Ta ranging between 650° C. and 750° C., and in maintaining it at said annealing temperature for a time interval between 1 and 20 seconds, then in cooling it at cooling rate Vc between 100° C./s and 500° C./s up to an overageing temperature Toa ranging between 150° C. and 450° C.

  • Patent number: 5843367
Abstract: Device for the accelerated cooling of a continuous substrate moving rapidly in a vertical plane, formed by a closed chamber, which includes, in succession in the direction of travel of the substrate, at least one so-called main cooling zone provided with coolant injectors, a so-called secondary cooling zone promoting contact between the coolant and the substrate, a coolant extraction zone and coolant retainers both at the inlet and outlet of the cooling device. The main cooling zone includes, spray injectors for forming one or more water/air fog curtains arranged in space so that they come into direct contact with the substrate to be cooled.

  • Patent number: 5628842
Abstract: A method and apparatus for continuously treating a strip of hot dip-galvanized steel. The method comprises the steps of rapidly reheating the strip to a predetermined temperature between 460.degree. C. and 600.degree. C., with a heating flux greater than 180 kWatts per meter squared based for each face of the strip; maintaining the strip at a substantially constant temperature for a predetermined period of time lasting between 10 and 30 seconds; and subsequently cooling the strip rapidly to a temperature below 420.degree. C., using a cooling flux of a magnitude greater than 100 kWatts per meter squared for each face of the strip. The step of rapidly reheating is performed following a drying operation conducted on the strip as it exits from a zinc bath.

  • Patent number: 4995446
Abstract: The cooling device comprises a supply chamber disposed around a vertical duct and having a front wall which at a spacing intimately follows the shape of the vertical duct, and an evacuation chamber disposed around the supply chamber and separated therefrom by an intermediate wall. The front wall is formed with a number of passages extending towards the vertical duct. Some of these passages open into the supply chamber and the remainder of the passages are connected to tubes which extend through the supply chamber and the intermediate wall and open into the evacuation chamber. The supply chamber comprises means for supplying cooling liquid, and the evacuation chamber comprises means for evacuating cooling liquid.

  • Patent number: 4874471
Abstract: A device for casting a metal in the pasty phase in a continuous casting mold comprises a vertical conduit disposed upstream of the mold and provided externally with cooling means a distributor member disposed substantially at the inlet of the conduit to deflect the metal flowing from a casting nozzle towards the inner surface of the vertical conduit which may be extended by a tubular element penetrating into the mold and an inlet section for the conduit at least the inner surface of which is formed by refractory material, the distributor member being disposed in the inlet section. The device may have an injector for injecting a gaseous agent into the vertical conduit below the distributor member, and a further device for causing the metal to rotate in the inlet section.

  • Patent number: 4744226
Abstract: An upper transverse chamber and a lower transverse chamber have apertures for the passage of cooling agent to a product passing between them. At least the upper chamber is divided into a central compartment corresponding to the central zone of the product, and two lateral compartments, corresponding respectively to the two edge zones of the product. The division into compartments is achieved by partitions which are perpendicular to the bottom of the upper chamber. The partitions form, inside of the upper chamber, a channel converging in the direction of motion of the product.

  • Patent number: 4723562
Abstract: A metal product having at least one plane surface, e.g. steel strip, is cooled by means of an aqueous fluid as it moves along a predetermined path by apparatus comprising a wall disposed opposite the plane surface of the product and substantially parallel thereto so as to form a chamber of substantially constant thickness between the plane surface and the wall, at least one aperture in the wall communicating with the chamber for the passage of the aqueous fluid connected to the aperture through the wall. The aperture is connected to a source of the aqueous fluid. The rate of flow of the aqueous fluid and the spacing between the wall and the plane surface are both adjustable.
