Patent number: 8184531Abstract: A method is provided for transmission within a telecommunication system, which includes a plurality of terminals that can exchange data flows therebetween. The method includes at least: a step of comparing a maximum throughput value offered by an interface with a cumulative value of the throughputs of flows that are intended to pass through the interface; and a step of adjusting the throughput of a particular flow following transmission of an adjustment value to a flow-emitting entity, which is executed when the maximum value is less than the cumulative value. The method enables a given terminal to adjust the throughput of a flow even when the flow is generated by a remote terminal.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2006Date of Patent: May 22, 2012Assignee: France TelecomInventors: Karine Guillouard, Stéphane Atheo, David Blanchet, Jean-Marie Bonnin, Lucian Suciu

Patent number: 8121034Abstract: A method is provided for the transmission of data flows through multiple interfaces. The method includes: comparing a maximum throughput value offered by an interface with a cumulative value resulting from a sum of the throughputs attributed to the flows effectively travelling through the interface; and switching a flow to another interface when the maximum throughput value offered is less than the cumulative value. The method can be used to redirect data flows to an interface other than the current interface when a congestion is detected in the comparison step and to perform optimum dynamic management of the resources of different interfaces as a function of the operating conditions of the interfaces.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2006Date of Patent: February 21, 2012Assignee: France TelecomInventors: Karine Guillouard, Stéphane Atheo, David Blanchet, Jean-Marie Bonnin, Lucian Suciu

Patent number: 7990913Abstract: A mobility manager provides mobility management of mobile nodes in accordance with bandwidth allocated from an access point. The mobility manager receives traffic shaping report messages from a traffic shaper within an access network of which the access point forms part, the traffic shaping report messages reporting on a current use of bandwidth for each of a plurality of different traffic types by one or more non mobility-managed mobile nodes which are not controlled by the mobility manager, and reporting on bandwidth used by one or more of the mobility-managed mobile nodes, which are managed by the mobility manager. The traffic pattern is adapted in accordance with a current use of bandwidth for the different traffic types by the non mobility-managed mobile node and is communicated to the traffic shaper for use in controlling the bandwidth of the access point in accordance with the adapted traffic pattern.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2006Date of Patent: August 2, 2011Assignee: France TelecomInventors: Annelise Massiera, Bastien Murzeau, Sébastien Auvray, Stéphane Atheo

Patent number: 7990875Abstract: A telecommunications system provides mobile internet protocol related communications services to mobile nodes via a plurality of access networks that each include an access gateway, a mobility manager operable to receive link quality messages from the mobile nodes providing an indication of a currently available link quality from an access network with which the mobile node is currently affiliated. The mobility manager is also operable to receive application server messages from the application server for managing the communications service with respect to the communications session level. The mobility manager directs a change of affiliation of a first mobile node between one of a first of the access networks and a second of the access networks to the other of the first and second access networks, or a change of communications session level of the first mobile node.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2005Date of Patent: August 2, 2011Assignee: France TelecomInventors: Annelise Massiera, Servane Bonjour, Stéphane Atheo

Publication number: 20080259852Abstract: A mobility manager provides mobility management of mobile nodes, which have subscribed to an applications server for a communications service. The applications server is arranged to control a level of a service in accordance with bandwidth allocated to the applications server for the mobility-managed mobile nodes by the mobility manager from an access point to which the mobility-managed mobile nodes are attached. The mobility manager receives traffic shaping report messages from a traffic shaper within an access network. The traffic shaping reports report on a current use of bandwidth for each of a plurality of different traffic types by non mobility-managed mobile nodes, which are not controlled by the mobility manager. The traffic shaping reports also report on bandwidth used by one or more mobility-managed mobile nodes, which are managed by the mobility manager.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 2, 2006Publication date: October 23, 2008Applicant: FRANCE TELECOMInventors: Annelise Massiera, Bastien Murzeau, Sebastien Auvray, Stephane Atheo

Publication number: 20080192638Abstract: A telecommunications system provides mobile internet protocol related communications services to mobile nodes via a plurality of access networks. A mobility manager directs a change of affiliation of a first mobile node between the access networks, or a change of communications session level of the mobile node, in accordance with the congestion state of the access networks, the link quality currently experienced by the mobile node, applications server messages and the level of service quality to which the first mobile node has subscribed. A quality of service for communications sessions of a mobile nodes can be maintained even on unregulated access networks, such as Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) independently of a Mobile IP v4/v6 stack. Moreover congested access networks can be decongested by controlling the communications bandwidth used by the mobile nodes.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 2, 2005Publication date: August 14, 2008Applicant: FRANCE TELECOMInventors: Annelise Massiera, Servane Bonjour, Stephane Atheo
